My alarm went off at stupid o'clock and I grumbled as I woke up. Josh was still talking in his sleep but I crept out of the room and went to get breakfast. I found my brother stroking Sweeney and talking quietly to him. They both looked up at the sound of me shuffling over.
"I told you not to get up." he sighed.
"And I told you I couldn't let you sneak out." I retorted. "If you're not going to let me go to the airport with you I'll at least squeeze all the hugs out of you."
He pulled me into a hug and we stayed that way for a while.
"I'm guessing you'll be coming home a lot on weekends while you're in France." he noted.
"Oui!" I nodded. "As many as I can cos I've missed you guys so much while I've been here."
"You'll be sick of us before you know it." he chuckled.
"I could never be sick of you. You're my favourite person in the whole world." I told him.
I was starting to get emotional and squeezed him harder.
"Don't let Josh hear you say that." he remarked.
"Everyone knows how much I love you." I sniffed.
"Don't cry." he told me, holding me at arms length and giving me a stern look.
I made us both a cup of tea and hugged him a few more times. Just before he left Josh shuffled out of bed, glasses wonky and tshirt inside out. He also hated early mornings.
When it was time for him to leave we followed Rupert down to the foyer of the building and waved him off. Of course I cried. Josh tried to wipe away my tears but accepted defeat and just gave me a hug. It was a meaningful hug though and I could feel him trying to reassure me.
"Let's go back to bed." he told me, taking my hand. "It's cold and early."
"I'll feed Sweeney and then be in." I told him.
I was kind of impressed and rather amused when I got to the bedroom to find him snoring. Did he have an off switch or something? I smiled and got into bed. He woke with a grunt at the movement and pulled me close to him.
"Love you." he muttered.
I'm not sure if he heard me reply as he was snoring again soon after.
I didn't think I'd sleep but the next thing I knew my second alarm was going off. I put it to snooze then stretched and felt my back click nicely. Josh wrapped his arms around my waist from behind.
"Hello again." he mumbled into my neck.
"Don't suffocate in my hair. That's a horrible way to go." I joked and tucked my hair under my head.
He pulled a little section free and twirled it around his finger.
"I want to wake up to you every morning." he told me.
"Wouldn't that be perfect?" I asked. "Although I think there'll be too many days when we're working on different sides of the planet."
He started humming something. It took me a bit to recognise it.
"Last Night Of World?" I asked. He made a noise of agreement then carried on humming. "What put that in your head?"
"On the other side of the earth there's a place where life still has worth." he sung half heartedly. "You said different sides of the planet and my brain sang that."
"Are you like a human juke box?" I asked.
"Mostly for show tunes." he replied.
"Well, that's a surprise!" I said sarcastically.
"I was such a theatre geek when I was a kid." he told me.
I laughed heartily at that. "You're still a theatre geek!" I said.
"There goes my street cred!" he chuckled.
My alarm went off again. Josh leant over me to grab my phone and turn the alarm off. I watched him as he rolled over to put my phone next to his on his night stand.
"Excuse me! What are you doing?" I asked.
"Confiscating that damn alarm. We should phone in sick and stay in bed all day. You and me, together." he told me.
"Oh god, that sounds good but you're way to important. They can't film without you." I sighed.
"Uh they can and they will. I hope they don't need any casualty make up cos I need you more." he said so matter of factly.
"You're..." before I got to say anything his phone rang.
He tried to ignore the phone but it seemed to keep ringing louder. He grumbled and answered the phone. While he sat on the edge of the bed, taking the call, I looked up and down his bare back. Even his back was gorgeous. When the call ended I shuffled over to cosy up behind him and kiss his neck and shoulders.
"Turns out we don't need to phone in sick." he told me. "It's a snow day. Half of New York is at a standstill. Even the airports are closed."
"Yeah right. I've seen New York snow and it's just a sprinkling." I dismissed. "A beautiful sprinkling though. When it snows in London we carry on like normal."
I got out of bed to open the curtains and see how bad this snow was. Oh, I was wrong! It was almost completely white outside!
"Come back here!" he laughed as he grabbed me around the waist to throw me back into bed.
Later in the morning we took Sweeney for a walk in the park but he wasn't impressed by the cold white stuff. We wrapped him up in as many layers as we could before we went out but he still looked cold. We both hugged and stroked him to keep him warm and feeling safe.
"Does he have any booties?" I asked and tickled his chin.
"Booties?" Josh asked as if this was ridiculous. "He a dog, not a baby."
"He's your baby though. Won't his paws get cold?" I suggested.
"You can get him booties if you want but I'll carry him." he said, rolling his eyes.
Josh did indeed carry him through the snow, half the length of Manhattan, as we went to my apartment to get clean clothes and to warm up. There was a letter pushed under my door from the landlord about my rent and contract. I huffed and scratched my head as I read it then handed it to Josh.
"You can read it. My lease ends while I'm away so I recon I have two options. Renew but leave it empty for a bit so I'm kind of wasting money. Or I could find somewhere new when I get back." I summarised. "What do you think?"
He read through the letter and thought to himself for a while.
"Third option. It might be too much but I'm just going to say it." he said. He took a deep breath before he continued. "I know it's only been three months so you can say no and I'll totally understand. You could move in with me. You won't have to pay rent. So you'll save money."
I didn't know what to say. I'd never lived with anyone except my family and even when I lived in London I still lived with my brother. This was a big deal. We stood in silence for what felt like ages while I thought.
"It's too soon isn't it?" he asked, looking terrified of my reply.
"It's not too soon." I replied. "Well, maybe it is but I like your idea."
He grinned. "So you're moving in?" he asked with a hint of nerves.
"Oh why not?!" I laughed.
He gave a squeak of delight and scooped me into a hug.
