This one's gonna be long!
Roman and Virgil had been dating for about a year and a half, everyone had been expecting them to get married soon....
On their anniversary was when Roman decided that he'd propose. Around Six O'clock was when Virgil came back from work and Roman immediately grabbed him by the arm, dragging him to the car.
"Roman, wait! Where are we going!?" Roman just smiled and opened the passenger door for his boyfriend that he oh, so adored. "You'll see, just get in."
To Virgil, this was normal, Roman often had these little surprises for him... not that he was complaining but this time was different... for the both of them.
Moments later, they had finally arrived to a breath taking meadow with light pink flowers growing everywhere and a picnic already set.
Virgil looked back at Roman who was full of smiles, said person pulled Virgil to the blanket as he sat him down and they continued to have a nice dinner.
Once they were finished Roman stood and began to play some music. "May I have this dance?"
Virgil simply smirked and took his lovers hand as they spun around in the dark, right before the song had ended, Roman had dropped to his knees and pulled out a ring, looking up at Virgil with a loving smile as he awaited his answer.
Virgil just stood there, he stopped breathing for a second but not out of his love for Roman.... out of the initial shock and fear of what had just happened.
The longer it took Virgil to reply, the more anxious Roman grew, a few awkward moments later Roman finally stood and held Virgil's hands. "Listen, if it's too soon we don't--"
Before Roman could even finish, tears began streaming down Virgil's face as he shook his head "No" and ran off.
Roman just stood there and blinked a few times, he began to feel like the whole world around him was spinning and then he just dropped to his knee's, the ring falling from his hand and rolling somewhere on the ground.
In a matter of seconds Roman began to breakdown as loud sobs began flowing from him, he fell from his knees and limply sat as he hugged himself and rocked back and forth, he had thought this would be a night to remember and in a way... it was, just not the way he wanted.
Months later, Roman had moved on but Virgil was always there in his heart. Every time he saw something that reminded him of Virgil or when someone spoke of him it still hurt.
One day Roman was taking a walk with his new boyfriend Jon and they happened to see a billboard with a picture of Virgil and "Virgil Black" in bold black eerie letters.
Roman's breath stopped and his chest began to ache just like it did on that night as he looked up at the billboard. His boyfriend looked up and noticed what he was staring at, he put a hand on Roman's shoulder, pulling him out of his thoughts, and smiled. "Isn't that your ex?"
Roman just nodded as they continued to walk, Roman looked up at the billboard one last time before they had left the area.
Later that night, when Jon had went to sleep, Roman pulled out his computer and googled "Virgil Black" to see that he was a new alternative rockstar and that people really loved him.
How did I not know about this?
Roman leaned over to grab his earphones from his nightstand and he plugged them in so he could listen to one of Virgil's songs.
Roman began to play the first song that was recommended of Virgil's, There was a moment of just a slow tempo'd piano that sounded like it had some electrical beats beats added to it but you couldn't notice unless you paid attention before Virgil began singing.
"You walk around like you are fine, So confident in life, so right But then I found you were afraid And that means life is not okay.."
The tempo of the song seemed consistent, slow and sad but with an electrical twist, up until he got chorus when Virgil began singing a bit faster and the instruments sped up too but you could still hear the pain behind his voice.
"I will sing for you a song, Tell me if you think that's wrong, If I let you know I'm here 'cause I am falling down, I would laugh away the pain Did you know I'd run all day Just to maybe hear you say That you are falling too..."
The song went back to it's slow tempo, the more Roman listened the more he recognized the pain behind the lyrics and the way Virgil was singing.
Roman paused the song and wiped a tear, in that moment he realized that he hadn't quite moved on, the pain in his chest hurt... just like it did yesterday and that he needed to do something to win Virgil back.
