Lesley odiahu heaved a sigh as she read a message from her close friend, Ebi.
It was an invitation to a party for the seniors of Quintessence High School.
It was happening at Von street, the place for the crème de la crème of society.
Lesley was a little bit excited to have somewhere to wander off to.
All she did was stay at home doing nothing since her graduation and to make matters worse, her parents were totally annoying.
Always finding faults in things their children do and not to talk off hammering them to worship them because of all their suffering and hard work which according to them makes she and her siblings who they were today.
She sighed again, this time with worry. How was she going to convince her parents to let her go for this party?
They were strict Christians with high moral standards and her dad was worse because of his military background, being a lieutenant made him more of a disciplinary officer.
He comes back late and so getting past him would not be a problem but her mum... well that's her biggest issue.
How would she get past her?
Lesley walked out of the room which she shared with all her other four siblings.
'What would I not give to have a room of my own?'
She thought with another sigh.
All her siblings apart from her elder sister were all scattered animals. Clothes littered everywhere, shoes could be seen at every corner of the room and not to talk of the smell of sweat from her brothers, it was just so disgusting.
She walked into the sitting room, swaying like a cat, with her long and slim legs.
She was going to be a curvy woman, for it was obvious even at sixteen that she was high waisted.
From what she could see, her mother was watching a Nigerian movie.
She heard her footstep and glanced back briefly, her face showing no strain from the previous night.
Her mother was forty-five years old and looked just above thirty-five with her perfect body and young looking features.
"What are you up to?" Mrs Odiahu asked, not taking her eyes off the movie.
"I have somewhere to be tomorrow by 2 o'clock" .
"Where? " she asked, this time taking her eyes off the TV, to pin her second daughter with a 'no nonsense' stare.
'That stare won't work today.' Lesley thought to herself.
"I have to meet up with Ebi, mummy,"
She flickered her eyes and pouted her lips
"I have not seen her in a while and i need her to help me finish up my presentation."
The presentation was another lie from the near past. 'Very innovative.' She congratulated herself .
"Oh, I thought you guys were done with that. Anyways, you have to be fast getting back here because I am not coming to bail you out when the guards lock you outside the estate by 7p.m. And your dad, would rather let you sleep out, than to come to help you. Hope you know that."
It was more of a statement than a question. She knew her dad's anger does not settle till after a day. Then he returns to being an always loving dad he is, and she wasn't ready to sleep in the cold.
"Got it."
She said.
She ran back to her room to get her best jean which she knew in Von street, would just be a normal day wear and a pink satin top given to her by her aunt Sarah on her last visit.
