Startled by waking up on the couch, Liam rose rapidly to the mumbling of himself deep in thought. His mind blew away as he struggled to get back on track with what had happened. Suddenly, he sat straight up, only in his boxers and raced up the stairs to the bedroom. Opening it ever so quickly, to find Louis asleep soundly in his bed, all cuddled up in the sheets. Liam sighed in relief knowing that he was okay. After the incident at the hotel swimming pool, he didn't want to leave things to chance anymore. He was too concerned for his bandmate.
A flame of shock roared into his bones as he heard his phone start to sound. He quietly made his way back downstairs and answered it, almost completely out of breath -- hearing a very familiar low tone come through.
"Hey, how's the night shift going?" A deep accent spoke.
"I'm all out of sorts, Harry. I'm so worried about him and everytime I try and relax, it just gets worse".
"If you want me to take over, or even Eleanor, we'll be happy to give you a bit of a break".
"No, it's perfectly fine, Harry. But thank you. I-I just...." Liam began to slowly tear up as he could not seem to finish his sentence.
"What is it?" Harry asked, wanting to hug him.
"W-What if it doesn't stop?" A tear fell as Liam sat down rubbing his eyes.
"No, Liam, you can't think like that. It will stop. Louis will be fine".
"How can you be so infuriatingly optimistic? I mean, what if Louis tries another attempt? Or what if he decides to abandon us and leave One Direction?"
The more Liam spoke, his voice rose more and more. Louis had heard every word from the conversation and sneaked down a couple of stairs to listen in more. He was silent as a mouse. But he knew Liam could be right. He was afraid himself of what he might do.
"Liam, we need to give Louis hope. That's what he needs right now, more than ever. We can't give up on him". Explained the calm Harry Styles.
"YOU WANNA TALK ABOUT HOPE??? WHAT ABOUT ROBIN OR JOHANNAH?? WE ALL GAVE THEM THE MOST HOPE WE COULD AND YET THEY STILL DIED!"
Harry paused for a moment, so did Louis as he witnessed the unreal battle clearing in front of him. Harry took a deep breath over the speaker, not wanting to hear any word of his step father or of Louis' mother.
"Li, I know what you're getting at but please just listen. Now you know I don't like talking about my stepdad but if he were here right now, he'd throw you out for not having the slightest bit of hope in that heart of yours. They both knew they weren't going to survive, they knew, but do you seriously think they spent all that time just sitting round waiting for God to take their souls? They believed with everything they had that something, anything was going to save them. Even if they already knew it wasn't going to end the way they thought it was. Depression isn't forever, Liam. We WILL save Louis".
Louis kept his head down, fighting it with all he had, that small urge to cry had grew double in size. He squinted as he fell to his knees, his arms wrapping his head up as he sat there on the steps. He was indeed lost fully. He had no clue what to do. He wanted to change more than anything. He just couldn't.
The next morning, Tomlinson came downstairs to the smell of bacon and eggs on the stove. Liam had an apron on and a kooky chef hat. He grinned as he saw the small man approach him with his face drained.
