Your heart started to race as you ran through the trees. Your little body tried desperately to fling yourself forward faster than those who chased you. Today was evaluation day, you had to go through the things you learned and see how well you could do it with just words to guide you. You could hear the yelling and shouting behind you and although you recognized the voices, it still terrified you.
Run faster... Run faster. They can't get you they will hurt you.
You thought to yourself as you remembered the words from the book. You knew that you had to get this right and to get it right you couldn't let yourself forget the important rules.
Golden rule number one, never look back.
You made a hard left to throw them off and then you made your way to a spot where you knew you'd be safe, the open. The woods itself was hard to navigate. There was no trails, no distinct paths. It was all rocks and trees. The terrain was so hard to go through that every step you took felt like you could easily misstep and break your ankle. You found the break in the trees when you got flashed in the eye with a bright light. Great, the sun was still shining.
You kept going until you no longer felt the sharp rocks and logs under your feet. You felt the soft dewy grass. You stopped for a minute to catch your breath and let your feet rest. You looked around the clearing, it was just a large meadow where lots of flowers grew. You knew that this was the best because you could see if someone was coming from all sides maybe and you could take a break. You were tired now.
You walked slowly to the middle of the meadow and you laid down, you were so small that the flowers and over grown grass could cover you completely. You laid there for an hour not hearing any yelling, any sounds that indicated somebody near you. So you did what any child would do and you took a nap.
You woke up some time later when you heard a sweet melodic tune. You sat up when you heard a beautiful voice sing. Singing and music in general was something that you were not used to, but it still drew you in nonetheless.
"All around the mulberry bush the monkey chased the weasel."
The singing filled the air around you and even the flowers began to sway to it. When that song finished another began.
"London bridge is falling down.... Falling down... " The signing slowed itself down and then the air around you felt cold, but you continued to sit there and listen. You were amazed at how beautiful the voice sounded. You wanted to get up and find it but you couldn't move.
The singing continues for many nursery rhymes. You didn't know any of them. But hearing them made you smile extremely wide. It was a trear for you.
You were so invested in the way that the voice sang to you that you didn't even notice how your name was being called out to. tthey were no longer hunting you down for your evaluation, no, they were now desperately searching for you. Being gone for over an hour meant that you completed the challenge. But when you didn't come back after the first victorious toot of the trumpet, (Your favorite thing to hear during evaluation because it means that you've won.) everyone became very nervous that something bad happened to you.
"Ring around the roses." This song was even slower that the last. It made you stand up and start singing with her. Your eyes were now a creamy white and your lips were pulled into a wide smile as you followed the sound, singing along in the same slow tone.
"Pocket full of posies!" you giggled at the fact that you didn't know what posies meant and you continued to walk. The only thing you could see now was directly in front of you, everything else was blurred out. Infront, you could see the tree line. It was still a little bit away but that didnt stop you from noticing a black gas that took the shape of a human figure. It was tall, but not as tall as your papa. Although this looked like something he would've warmed you not to go near, you kept walking towards it, singing along with it.
"Ashes........ Ashes..... " You stopped walking, the sounds of now everyone shouting your name was still drowned out by the sounds. You stared at the figure hard and watched as it stepped into the light. The gas transformed into a beautiful woman. You couldn't make out much of her because...
"We all.... Fall..... Down. " When the song finished you fell back onto the grass. Your head hitting hard against a rock, causing you to pass out.
"Ring around the roses, a pocket full of posies. Ashes. Ashes. We all fall down."
