On Form
In forming broader circles such as these
One finds some arguments alike in shape.
Like broken records, skipping as they please
And winding down, entangled in red tape.
Against established structure they will rail;
Contesting in the name of precious art,
“You limit creativity!” they wail,
As if a sonnet never won a heart.
Well, I retort, a craftsman who’s on form
Will take the rhyme and meter as his tools;
And, while it doesn’t have to be the norm,
Conforming to the details and the rules
Can still inform. To structure is a skill;
Take building blocks and bend them to your will.
