"What are you talking about?"
Jungkook heard Monster sigh heavily. "Before dinner, I was updated that Letchner was back from town after an associate saw him. He's rampaging."
"What do you mean?"
"He's killed half of his employees that made it out alive from our attack."
Jungkook's eyes widened. He pressed his ear closer against the bedroom door, anxious to hear the rest pf the conversation. Was it immature? Maybe. But this was about Miyeon, he needed to hear it.
"Did they tell you about his plan? Can't we contact the associate again to find out more?" Jungkook heard a slight panic in her voice, the panic he had heard when he had to get her after Jimin was hurt.
"Well, he's been killed. Soon after contacting me, we lost all connection to him."
"By--"
"Letchner. Yes."
Silence. It made Jungkook's blood run cold.
This had never happened before. Bangtan didn't speak to too many associates, and now one of them they actually needed information from was dead right after giving it? Was Letchner really on a murder spree?
"I just don't think it's safe to take you out anymore. Not when he's this angry. We still don't know why he left the area right after you left, he could be getting help to try and find you."
"Monster, I can help. I want to fight him too, that was the whole point."
Jungkook heard Monster faintly sigh. He couldn't imagine this was easy for him to tell her.
"Miyeon, I can't risk losing you. Not now. You're giving us everything we need, you are helping. And I promise you when we finally kill the son of a bitch you'll be right by our side, you deserve to be there for that. But you don't deserve to die before we can finally kill him."
Miyeon didn't respond. Jungkook could only picture her disappointed face.
"And after Jimin, if we lost someone else close to us, I don't know how we'd we all face it."
"I'm not like Jimin, though. It wouldn't hurt the family badly, in fact, it would help you out of this Letchner situation. I dragged you into this in the first place, I just want to help us all get out."
"You're just as important as the rest of us. Imagine Jungkook, Miyeon. You know he couldn't bear to lose you. We couldn't either."
Jungkook felt his face become hot. It felt weird to hear Monster use him as a reason. Miyeon was an asset when it came to the job, but was he had never been faced with the facts Monster was actually proposing.
If Miyeon was gone.....
He had to admit it to himself, even Monster knew, for fuck's sake. If Miyeon was gone, he didn't know what he would do. It hurt to even think about it.
"So that's it."
He was snapped out of his thoughts by Miyeon's quiet voice again, and he was glad about it. He didn't like thinking about how he would feel if someone else he cared for.....
never mind.
"It's not 'it', it's just that you'll have to stay here for the next phase. If it helps, I promise we won't kill him without you."
Jungkook didn't hear a response from Miyeon. He was sure she didn't know what to say, especially because it was Monster. If Jungkook had been the one to break the news, she might've yelled at him by now. But she had too much intimidated respect for Monster, and Jungkook knew that. He actually felt pity forming in his chest.
