The doors swung open as a guard sauntered in whilst dragging a peasant dressed in rags. His face was caked with dirt and blood. I stood, fearfully yet observantly, behind my father's marble throne. The fire light mixed with the sun's fading glow made the gold on my father's royal robes glimmer like tiny stars. The peasant was dropped at my father's feet.

"My Lord, Ra. This man was found outside your temple speaking lies and Heresies of your name."

The guard announced. My father searched over the peasant. His dark eyes seared right into the peasant's soul. I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. I knew I shouldn't but I did.

"What is your name?"

My father asked him as he laid on his knees at the foot of my father's throne. He looked up to lock eyes with my father but instead he stared into my eyes, a smile spreading across his lips. All things considered I still felt sorry for him.

"Bayti, my lord."

He replied with mocking respect. His voice came out with a low growl supporting it.

"What do you have to say for your crimes? Anything? Do you wish to renounce them and instead serve your Lord Ra?"

My father asked, tightening his grip on his golden spear. He gazed down at Bayti, searching him for any kind of resentment. Bayti sneered at my father.

"Ha! Your rule has done nothing but bring disharmony to our land. You enslave our people and provide us with no food. If your daughter rules the way you do, we shall surely all die."

Bayti hissed as he spat at my father. I flinched and looked at him with disgust. How could he do that to my father? The guard look up at my father and drew his sword.

"Father What is he doing?"

I asked, pointing at the guard who had his sword drawn. My father placed a hand on my shoulder.

"The penalty for this man's crimes is death. He must die for slandering our name. I'm doing this for you, Rashida."

I shook my head as I processed the words. This was no way to deal with such crimes..!

"Father, there must be another way!"

My father ignored me and signaled for the guard to kill Bayti. He raised his sword above his head and brought it down to separate his skull from his neck.

"NO!"

I shouted and kept forward a little but it was too late. The sickly sound of blade slicing through flesh and blood trickled into my ears. I looked down at the gruesome sight, Bayti's body laying motionless in a pool of his own blood. His lifeless eyes staring back up at me. I felt tears brim in my eyes. My father placed a hand on my shoulder.

"Oh my dear Rashida."

He cooed to calm me down. I ran up to him, engulfing his torso in a hug as I sobbed into his tunic. He pet my head as an attempt to soothe me.

"My poor sweet child, you must learn when you come to rule sometimes this is the best corse of action."

I nodded as I sobbed. Someday when I rule Misr I will rule peacefully. I will not kill everyone who merely "slanders my name". I will live to make my father proud. I will unit my kingdom with the other that threatens ours, Asgard.

Yes, father, this is the best corse of action.
