So here I was. In the car of some mystery dude. All I knew about him was his name was Parker and he goes to my school. I'm fine. I'm okay, I try to tell myself. I moved to California to get away from my past. But sitting in this car with Parker, it made me feel like I was running right back to my past. Like history repeating itself.
"You okay?" He asks as he looks over at me. I shake my head yes. He smiles. "So, you gonna tell me why you moved ?" Parker asked.
"You ask a lot of questions, don't you?" He looked over at me for a moment. Then he looked back at the road. He had this grin. I couldn't tell if it was a good or bad sign. But I went with it.
"So, where are we going?" I asked.
"That's for you to find out."
Everytime he talked, it sent shivers down my spine.
About 15 minutes later, he pulled into this lot. Out a little ways from the lot, was a beach. It was beautiful. The sun was just starting to set. The pinks and blues in the sky blended perfectly. Parker got out and told me to come on.
I followed him down the path to get to the beach. He had a tight black shirt on. And as he walked, you could see all his muscles. He wasn't tense anymore. He was relaxed.
When we got to the beach, he looked back at me.
"You've never seen anything till you've seen this view. Come on." He told me in his deep, low voice.
We climbed up these rocks. Once we reached the top, everything was enhanced. The blues, pinks, and yellows were all brighter. It was perfect. Was perfect. Till everything had to come to an end.
My mom was calling wondering where I was. I totally forgot about even going home. It was late. The sun was already set. I lost track of time. She told me to come straight home and that she had my car. So it looked like Parker would be driving me home.
"Is that your que that you need to go home?" He had asked.
"Yeah. And I needa favor. Can you drive me home?"
"If you beg me first." He said laughing.
"Are you being serious right now?"
"Yeah." He said teasingly.
"Guess that I'm walking home." I turned around, and as I did so, he grabbed my arm and said he would drive me home. As soon as I felt his fingertips on my arm, I froze. Luckily, he didn't notice, or at least I don't think he did.
The drive home was mostly him teasing me. I knew if I wasn't home soon, my mother would kill me. It looks like death awaits me at home then.
"Why are you so bad at opening up?" Parker asked. He caught me off guard with this comment. It just came out of no where.
"What do you mean?" I had asked.
"You put up this wall. And just when I think you will bring it down, even just a little bit, you don't. You put it back up."
"I don't know." I lied. I felt guilty about lying. I don't owe him anything. I don't even owe him the truth, but I couldn't help to feel guilt, and I cannot explain why.
"You do know. I don't expect you to trust me immediately, but I haven't gave you any reason not to trust me. I could have took you anywhere today. I could have hurt you, but you trusted I wouldn't, and I didn't."
That was the truth. There was a little part of me that trusted him, and that is what scared me most. Every time I let someone in, they hurt me. That's all they're good for. Hurting me.
"This is you're house right?" He asked.
"Yeah." I opened that car door and turned around to thank him and grab my bag, but as I turned around to grab my bag, he grabbed my hand. I looked up almost immediately.
"Let me take you out tomorrow night." He said.
"Parker.... I-"
"No saying no. I'm taking you out. I'll be here around seven, okay?"
"Okay Parker." I said as I reached for my bag. As soon as I said okay he smiled. His smile was gorgeous. His teeth were white and straight.
I smiled back and shut the car door. I walked up to my driveway and opened the door. As I opened the door, I turned around. He was still there. He wanted to make sure I got into my house safe. I smiled and waved.
I stepped inside, shut the door behind me, and slid down against the door. I couldn't help but smile.
"Parker Elliott, what am I going to do about you?" I thought.
