"Here again Miss Main?" It was the third time I'd gone into Headspace that week to sort out "parent" issues. When I say "parent" I mean "adoptive demons from hell" issues. I didn't like them. They didn't like me. Our relationship was simple.
"Yes Mister Walker." I said as I sat down in front of his desk.
"Parents rejecting you again?" he asked mockingly.
"Can we get this over with?" I asked with a tone of voice showing that I really wasn't interested in in talking. He picked up the phone and dialled the devil's number while giving me a sickly sweet smile. The phone rang a couple of times then someone at home (if I can even call it that) answered the phone.
"Hello? Ah, yes. Is this Mrs Main, yes, hello. This is Mr Walker from Headspace. I've got your daughter, Beth, here and I would like if you co-" he was cut off by a raging sound coming from the phone that was unintelligible.
He ended the conversation then put the phone down and came to the conclusion that I would have to stay at the hostel next door for the night. Again. I was pretty much a regular there now. Staying at least 3 days a week there because of my "parent's" hatred for me. Who knows why they adopted me in the first place.
I let out a big sigh then left his desk as he rang the little desk bell to signal the next complainer to come forward. I exited the building then proceeded to the hostel next door. I went inside without even bothering to ring the bell any more. There was a chorus of hellos from the rejected kids and ladies that were at the front desk as I signed in.
They assigned me my room, number 17, and I left to it without another word. I walked into the room to find Gabs, another regular, already in there. She was a nice girl but was very quiet. I considered her my best friend. I hadn't had much social interaction with other kids that were my age considering that I was 17 and had recently come out of school.
I walked into the room and emptied my pockets onto the bedside table as Gabs sat there looking at me. She tried making social chit chat but then must have caught on that I wasn't in a mood to talk.
"Hello." someone said in a flirty voice behind me.
