Lindsay, Sierra, and Josh sat in Savana's room for a while and got to know one another. Nurses popped in and out of the room, checking her vitals, but Lindsay noticed that they had been in more often than they had been in days. At one point, she followed a nurse out.
"Excuse me?" She spoke as she followed her, "I have a quick question."
The nurse stopped and turned around, "What'cha need?" She had a cheerful demeanor, but Lindsay felt she was hiding something.
"I've noticed nurses coming in and out of the room more often than normal, and I was wondering if there's any cause for concern." Lindsay pointed with her thumb back to the room.
The nurse shook her head, "Not at all. In fact, she's doing really well. We've stopped inducing, so she should wake up some time within the next few days. We're going to be taking her tracheostomy tube out at some time today. We'll probably take it out, use the gastrostomy tube once more, and no more after that." The nurse beamed with excitement, "We've been checking on her every half hour to make sure she's stable enough to have everything taken out."
Lindsay smiled with tears in your eyes, "Oh my- are you sure?" She couldn't believe what was happening. The nurse nodded before walking away. Lindsay smiled and picked up her phone, immediately dialing Niall. When he answered, she almost couldn't handle her excitement. "Hey, Ni. How's it going?"
"Pretty good, actually," Lindsay bit her lip to contain a massive smile, "Is Michael in the room?"
Niall quickly answered, "No, actually, it sounds like Ashton and Luke are serenading him in his room. Why? Is everything okay?"
"Everything's better than okay!" Lindsay said, "I just talked to a nurse and she said Savana could wake up soon. They've stopped inducing, and they're taking her tube out soon."
"That's amazing, Princess!" Niall whisper-shouted into the phone. Lindsay shivered at the nickname, she loved it. It made her happy from the back of her neck and made that feeling shoot down to her lower neck. It was a warm, tingly feeling that she wanted more of. She stayed silent for a moment, which worried Niall, "If that nickname made you uncomfortable, I can say something else or no pet name at all if you'd like."
Lindsay shook her head, "Oh, no, no, no! Please. Say it more often, Ni." She said before turning her head to look at the door to Savana's room, "I'm gonna go, they're probably wondering where I am."
"Wait, 'they'? Who else is there?" Niall asked, but Lindsay was already saying goodbye and hanging up before she could fully process the question. She walked back into the room as she put her phone in her back pocket, ignoring the many texts from 'C. Wulf.'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Niall set his phone down, shrugging. Louis looked over at him, "Who else is there with them?" Everyone was looking at Niall at this point because of the one unanswered question.
He hummed a bit, "No clue, Lindsay didn't say." He picked up his phone again and walked into the kitchen, grabbing some chips. The muffled music had stopped and the door opened, both Ashton and Luke walking out. Ashton held a notebook and pen while Luke held a guitar.
"What did you guys do?" Liam watched as they walked out and sat down with a sigh.
Ashton looked at Luke, "We wrote a song for him because music's his therapy, at least it has been in the past." They looked disappointed.
"Guys," Harry leaned forward, "Not a lot is going to help him right now. You remember how obsessed he was, and still is, with her? That's not going to go away overnight." They shrugged with half-smiles. Harry shook his head, "Have you ever had a pet that you loved so much, and when it died, it hurt you deep down and you didn't get over it for weeks?"
They nodded a little and looked up, "Well, yeah, I don't know anyone that hasn't." Ashton said.
"That's what Michael's going through. He loves her so much, and she's in pain and he can't tell her he's sorry. She's asleep for who knows how much longer, and he can't help her through it. He feels guilty about it, and nothing can change his mind until she wakes up and tells him it's either not his fault or she forgives him." Harry explained, "Imagine torturing yourself without knowing when it's going to end, and you can't end it with wishful thinking. It's hurting him, and there's not much we can do except be there for him."
Luke sighed, "Did you guys want hear it? It's kind of sad, and not very uplifting. Especially when one of us is in the hospital."
The general consensus was positive, and they were curious what Ashton and Luke came up with in half an hour. Luke started on his acoustic guitar, while Ashton held the notepad in front of him. He started, but it wasn't a song that everyone thought would cheer Michael up.
Here I am waking up
Still can't sleep on your side
There's your coffee cup
The lipstick stain fades with time
If I can dream long enough
You'd tell me I'd be just fine
I'll be just fineJust the start of it was enough to move some of the boys to tears. This was truly how Michael felt about Savana's absence, and it hurt. Everyone missed her, and it wasn't a secret.
So I drown it out like I always do
Dancing through our house
With the ghost of you
And I chase it down
With a shot of truth
Dancing through our house
With the ghost of youLiam and Louis sat, trying to contain themselves and listen to the song. The tears ran down their cheeks, though, and they couldn't help it any longer.
Cleaning up today
Found that old Zepplin shirt
You wore when you ran away
And no one could feel your hurt
We're too young, too dumb
To know things like love
But I know better nowZayn reached down, with tears dripping off of his jaw line, and held Luke's guitar strings. "Please, stop." Ashton and Luke looked up and saw that everyone that sat and listened was in tears.
Michael walked out, deciding to join everyone for a moment. His eyes were red and his cheeks were puffy, "I just wanted to thank you two, for writing that for me. It takes a lot to write a song, especially a sad one about someone close to you, so thanks." He sat down next to Liam, and saw that he was upset. "It's like Savana has this power. She makes everyone around her so happy when she's in a room, and, now that she's away, when we think about her, everyone's upset."
"It's like the sun going away for a long time." Ashton looked at him with a sad smile, "You're gonna miss it after a while."
Niall looked over to Michael, teary eyed, "You should head to the hospital. The girls are waiting for you." He smiled a bit, but it gave Michael anxiety.
Michael nodded, and slipped on his shoes. He grabbed a set of keys and walked out towards the garage.
