Lindsay was perplexed by the messages she got, but ignored them, thinking it was just a wrong number. She deleted the stream of texts.
After she finished her homework, she stood and checked the time, "You guys want to have a night in? Just us three? It's almost seven."
Sierra giggled, "You know there's nine boys out there who would love to join in? Michael loves it when Savana and him get to snuggle on the couch and she falls asleep on him so that he can carry her into bed. I know he'll join if Savana suggests doing something couch-related. He loves being near and with her."
Savana shrugged, "You two have been telling me that he likes me and I just don't see it."
"Come on, Sav! You can't tell me you don't see him staring at you every time you walk in the room! Especially when you've just showered or put perfume on. I can see him inhale deeply whenever you walk by." Lindsay tried convincing her.
"He tries really hard to make it discreet," Sierra added, "But it's so obvious."
Savana scoffed, "I mean, I have been trying to get him to ask me out! It's not that I'm leading him on or anything. I'd never do that." She blushed profusely. "Let's do the girl's night. If anyone wants to join, they're welcome if they're quiet."
Lindsay and Sierra agreed and walked out with Savana to the living room where all the boys sat, drinking and playing video games. "We're taking over, boys. We want to watch chick flicks and cry." Savana joked and put her hands on her hips.
Michael's eyes brightened, "Could I watch with you?" Lindsay elbowed Sierra and they both looked at the boy on the couch. He looked so excited and happy to sit with her again.
Savana started blushing, "I, uh, yeah-I gue-S-Sure." She smiled, trying to play it off as a joke. "She turned to the girls, "Get whatever snacks you want, I'll make the popcorn." She turned to the boys again, "I know Michael's in, who else?"
No one else really said anything except Zayn, Niall, Ashton and Calum. Savana counted out 8 popcorn bags. Lindsay and Sierra went to the pantry to grab a multitude of snacks.
Michael got comfortable and could feel eyes staring at him. He turned to Luke and saw a smirk on his face, "We know you like her, mate."
"H-How?" Michael stuttered, trying to play it off as relaxed as possible.
"Why don't you just outright tell her?" Zayn laughed, "We can all see that you two like each other."
Niall chimed in, "We can also see that when she passes you, that you inhale as deeply as possible. Especially when she's just put perfume on or showered."
"So? She smells really good. It relaxes me." Michael crossed his arms in embarrassment. "Besides, a girl like her can get any guy she wants. Why pick me?"
Luke opened his mouth to protest when something else broke the silence, "Michael!" Savana's whispered shout came from the kitchen.
Michael was the first one in the kitchen and saw Savana cowering away from the microwave handle with an army's worth of popcorn in her hands. She looked at him then back to the microwave. He looked over and saw a bug the size of her hand sitting on the microwave handle. He picked up his shoe from the small doormat in front of the sliding glass door and held it up moving around to kill it. He hit it harder than he meant to, making a mess of the microwave door.
Michael cleaned it up, muttering a string of apologies to her. After he was done cleaning, he felt two arms wrap around his neck and pull him closer. Savana hugged him tightly and whispered a thank you. He hugged her back, picking her up. He wanted to do it since he met her and he finally got his chance. He put her down and helped her make popcorn. He was so relaxed and happy.
They walked in, holding 4 bowls filled to the brim of popcorn while Ashton controlled Netflix. Everyone had their suggestions and they finally settled on Teeth. It was about halfway through the movie and mostly everyone had fallen asleep. Michael, Savana and Luke had stayed awake until the end of the movie. During the credits, Luke stood and stretched, "I'm going to head to bed. Hopefully Calum doesn't tear me a new one for going to bed so late." He waved to the two.
"I heard you humming during the movie. Well, felt it, actually." Michael whispered to her, "What song is it?"
Savana sat up from his lap and smiled, "It's a dumb song." She felt embarrassed.
"No! No song is dumb!" Michael held her hands and made eye contact, "There's a reason you like it." He thought for a moment, "You want to sing it?" Savana nodded slowly and Michael took his phone out, "Then you have to tell me the song so I can do the instrumentals for you."
Savana smiled, bearing her teeth, "It's For Now by Kina Grannis."
Michael stood up and held out his hand, "I'll go grab my guitar, go out back." She took his hand and walked to the backyard. He met her outside shortly afterwards with his acoustic guitar. "You can start whenever." He looked at her, barely illuminated by the street light from over the fence. She was beautiful.
Sometimes I think about the ones that we've replaced
All the millions underneath the burnt and waste
And I get sad because of course we'll be the same
All of history collapsing in its wakeShe started with her eyes closed and Michael met her with his notes. She sat on the ground, and Michael got off his chair to meet her.
Maybe it's enough that I have laid here
Maybe it's enough that I have known inside my head, and
Maybe it's enough to know that we were here togetherSavana looked at his green eyes and smiled at the brightness that they held. She was so happy. Michael looked at her as she continued, staring at him with a humble and sweet smile on her lips.
And that we are the ones
We are the ones
We are the ones for nowMichael played softly as he listened to her. Her voice could put him to sleep. It was so soft and beautiful, just like she was.
They finished off the song and Savana pulled out her phone, putting the song on and standing up. She held out her hand to Michael, which he took and stood with her. She took the guitar off of him and placed it against the door. They could barely see one another, but Savana knew where to put his hands. One on her waist and the other in her hand. She placed her empty hand on his upper arm, pulling him close and laying on his chest as they began dancing slowly.
Michael didn't know what to do. He was shocked and speechless. Eventually he relaxed and rested his head on hers, easing into the dance with her. They continued with closed eyes. It felt right to them. The song repeated, but they didn't care. They just wanted to keep dancing.
So maybe this is what it takes to realize
I am grateful just that I have been alive
And I'll be happy if I look back on my life
Been a sister, been a mother, been a wifeSavana hugged him tightly and he smiled, pulling her closer to him as well. They were at peace with where they were, like they were the only two people in the world.
Maybe it's enough that I have laid here
Maybe it's enough that I have known inside my head, and
Maybe it's enough to know that we were here togetherSavana tried to lower her voice, as did Michael when they whispered, "I love you." To one another. They didn't want to break the position they were in, only smiling when they heard the other say it.
And that we are the ones
We are the ones
We are the ones for now.
