By the next morning, Gobber had Iris's spear all ready. He was so excited for her to see it that he waited outside of the Chief's house for her to wake.

When Iris left the house to get to training with the other riders, she was shocked to come face to face with a sharp, metal point. "Ah!" She flinched back.

"Iris, I've finished your order," Gobber told her proudly, "what do you think? Twin, four foot battle spears, light but indestructible."

Iris's eyes widened at the sight of them; they were perfect. "And look," Gobber added, pressing the two spears together, "they snap together as one, too." He handed it to her.

Iris felt the cold of the metal chill her fingers. Just like he'd said, it was light as air. "Wow," she admired, "this is amazing, thank you."

"My pleasure!" Gobber announced, holding his chin up proudly. "Can't wait to see it in action."

Then, Iris was off to the arena. Once their, she was greeted by an irritated Snotlout, "ugh, and usually I'm the one who's late."

"Sorry for the hold up," Iris apologized, holding the spear out infront of her, "I had to get something."

Tuffnut gasped, "ah, it's glorious."

"Wow, that thing looks pretty intense," Astrid admired. She then smirked and asked challengingly, "wanna test it out?"

Iris spun the spear around her body expertly and stuck the bottom end to the ground hard. "If you think you can handle it," Iris smiled deviously, "remember, I'm in my element now."

With that, the two girls lunged. It still felt weird to Iris, fighting with the other riders for fun. She'd grown up in a world where there were no wars. All of the fighting moved and positions she knew were only taught to keep tradition alive, and were often used in dance on her island. But now, knowing that she was part of a tribe that did have enemies, Iris understood the need to stay sharp.

The spar didn't last long, withing a few minutes, Iris had Astrid pinned to the ground, the head of her spear against Astrid's chest. Iris grinned in triumph, then helped her friend back to her feet.

"Not bad," Astrid complimented.

"'Not bad'?" Ruffnut repeated with a laugh, "she totally just kicked your butt." Astrid rolled her eyes in response.

"Okay, let's not get too heated," Hiccup came into the conversation. When he had everyone's attention, he began, "as we all know, there's going to be a dragon race is in a couple of days. Iris is new to this, so let's talk about that."

And they did. For the next few hours, planning was done, face paint was made, and rules were explained. But in the end, Iris decided that she wouldn't compete.

"But, why not?" Fishlegs questioned.

Iris smiled, "this is all just so new to me and Arrow..for me, it still just doesn't feel quite right to ride dragons."

Hiccup sighed with a crooked smile, "don't worry about it, we understand."

"We do?" Ruff asked.

Hiccup gave her a look as he continued, "yes, we do."

"Well, if you change your mind, you're spot is always open," Astrid assured her. Iris smiled gratefully.

Snotlout then piped in, "I'm fine with it, less competition means a bigger chance of me winning. Not that I wouldn't win anyways."

"In your snot-filled dreams," Tuffnut shouted challengingly. So the arguing began on who the best racer was, and who would win this year.

It was the day of the big race. All of the vikings were getting ready to watch it go down, while the riders stood in the arena. They painted their dragons and their faces with colors of their choice. Iris entered the arena just before the race began.

She jogged over to Tuffnut, who wore yellow and black all over his face. "Hey, Ruff, Tuff," she called to them, "good luck out there." Iris approached Tuffnut and punched him in the arm. His face was full of shock. "Sorry, too much?" She asked.

"No, that's just the first time I've seen you punch, well, anyone," he explained as a grin grew on his face, "it was awesome."

With a loud laugh, Iris punched him again, harder this time. "Yes!" Tuff exclaimed wildly, "hah! I already feel like a winner!" In this, Iris began to understand the whole 'loving violence' concept that the twin once tried to explain to her.

A horn sounded from above her, signalling the beginning was soon. So Iris ran out of the arena, and the race began. Watching it was quite a rush, and her excitement built as the twins' basket filled slowly. And when the black sheep was launched, she shouted in joy as Tuffnut grabbed it out of the air.

After the black sheep had been passed around a few times, it finally landed in the twins' basket. "And the twins make their first ever win!" Stoick announced with a jolly grin.

When the zippleback landed outside of the arena, Ruff and Tuff were both letting out manic cries of victory. They hopped off of Barf and Belch and slammed their helmets together, leaving both of them a little dizzy.

Iris ran up to Tuff and shouted, "I knew you could do it!" She then wrapped her arms around his middle and squeeze him.
