Iris had woken to the light of the sun shining into her home. Arrow was just waking as well, rolling over in her sand pit with a groan. Smiling in amusement, Iris got up and changed into her day clothes. There would be no training today, so she simply wore a wool dress with warm boots.

Once she had fixed her dress up, she let her fingers run through her bleach blonde hair. She'd been so busy with training the dragon warriors and helping rebuild Berk that she hadn't noticed it's lengthening over the past five months. The hair that once hung short around her jaw reached her shoulders. With a sigh, she left her cabin to find Mora.
On her way to Mora, Ariel, and Thorn's home, Iris ran into Ruffnut. "Hey, Ruff," she greeted politely.
"Ah! What?" The young woman whipped around in start. Upon the sight of Iris, she seemed to force an innocent smile, "Iris, hey! How's my favorite dragon warrior? You know what? I'm actually really busygottagobye!" Her words came out in an unexpected rush.
Iris opened her mouth to speak, but Ruff was already gone. Rolling her eyes, she continued on her way, wondering what the twin had gotten herself into. Finally, she reached her destination.
"Iris, what brings you here?" Mora asked as she answered the door.
With a sweet smile, Iris asked, "think you could cut my hair for me?"
Mora nodded and let Iris in and gestured for her to sit in a chair. Ariel entered the room upon hearing Iris's arrival and sat on the table. "Cutting your hair again?" Ariel asked as she watched her mother prepare her scissors.
When Mora turned around, she gave Ariel a stern look, "chairs are for sitting, young lady."
Ariel rolled her eyes dramatically and took a seat infront of Iris a chair instead. Then Mora began to snip. "Do you think I would look good with short hair?" Ariel wondered.
Iris examined the girl's long, butterscotch waves and responded, "I think any hair style would suit you; you're blessed with your mother's unwavering beauty."
Mora laughed lightly and accepted the compliment, but Ariel only frowned, "but what would look best?"
"..Why the sudden interest?" Iris wondered with an amused grin.
Ariel's face turned a dark shade of red. Mora chuckled and responded for her, "she's infatuated with a young viking boy."
"Mom!" Ariel wined.
Iris and the mother shared a laugh. "Is that so?" Iris asked, "what's his name?"
Finally giving up on trying to hide her crush, Ariel sighed and spoke dreamily, "..Gustav."
Iris's eyes widened and her body lurched, "Gustav?!"
"Whoops," Mora muttered, "uh, Iris?"
Immediately regretting her movement, Iris spoke with a sigh, "that was my fault..just do what you can with it." She then turned her attention back to the young teen and repeated, "Gustav?"
"Yeah," Ariel confirmed with a shy smile, "he's such a gentleman, but still fun to be around. Kinda like how Tuffnut is with you." Iris smiled at the mention of her love's name. "You know, Tuffnut's been asking a lot of questions about our culture lately."
Mora, now finished with her scissors, set then down and gave her daughter a look. "He has?" Iris questioned curiously, "what kind of questions?"
"Oh, nothing really," Mora butted in, "just our customs, traditions, things as such."
"I wonder why he doesn't just ask me?" Iris muttered.
"Well, you know best of how..curious, he can be," Mora reminded, "he probably just wants to get to know the rest of us better."
Iris looked from Mora's face of controlled nervousness, to Ariel's pouting expression. She thought back to her odd encounter with Ruffnut earlier. "Is something going on?" She asked suspiciously.
Mora laughed lightly and helped Iris to her feet. "Not at all..why do you ask?"
"..Nevermind," Iris decided to drop it for now. She smiled and thanked Mora for the hair cut, then left to find Tuff. She had a feeling something was going on behind her back, but she wasn't sure if it was her place to pry. So she pushed the thoughts out of her mind and continued on her way.
Iris found Tuffnut in the arena with the other riders, just getting ready to begin their training for the day. She snuck up behind him and threw her arms around his shoulders. Tuff shouted in surprise, making her laugh as shenlet him go. "Iris," he greeted with a crooked grin, "okay, okay, you got me." He smiled fully and touched her hair, "I like this."
Taking one of his hands into her own, she smiled up at him, "can I come watch you train today?"
"Noooo!" Ruffnut interrupted dramatically. Iris gave her a look of shock, making her laugh nervously, "I mean, it's up to you; do what a dragon do, know what I'm saying?" She winked awakwardly and pointed Iris with a finger gun.
"Are you sure you wanna come today?" Astrid piped in.
"Yeah, you should relax and enjoy your day off," Fishlegs added eagerly.
Snotlout then spoke up, "you could sleep in the sand on the beach; heard you're into that."
Iris was baffled; something was definitely going on. "Woah, guys," Hiccup interrupted with his arms out to calm the group, "Iris can go with you, if she wants." Even Hiccup seemed off, staring at Tuffnut as he spoke to Iris.
She looked up at her love in confusion; he was the only one acting normal, "is there an outbreak of eel pocks or something?"
Tuffnut chuckled in response and mounted Belch, pulling Iris up after him. "Don't worry about it, babe," he spoke smoothly, in a tone that calmed Iris. Then they were off to train.
