The next early morning, I woke up to the sound of the birds outside my window. I went outside and saw Hector sitting on a bench.
"Good morning Horix," said Hector once he saw my face popping up behind the door. My hair was a mess and I couldn't wash it for days.
"Morning, Hector," I said.
"You look like you need a bath" teased Hector.
"Oh, I do" I replied
"The shower is behind the cabin" he replied and smiled.
I took my shower and I could wash some of my clothes. I had to go after my family and uncover the mystery. Hector's dad went to hunt early in the morning.
I found Hector cutting a piece of wood outside. I sat next to him.
"Hey, thanks for inviting me and giving me food to eat," I said
"My pleasure," he said
"But, I have to continue my mission and uncover the mystery, it was nice meeting you" I added, but I felt a little bit sad leaving him.
There was silence...
"Can I come with you?" he finally asked
"But, won't your dad be upset and it wouldn't it be dangerous for you" I replied
"I have nothing to do here because all I do is woodwork all day. I can leave a note saying I went with you to solve the mystery. Please! And it's very dangerous for you to go alone" he pleaded.
"I'm not sure...but I could use a friend in the dark woods" I admitted.
"And I know a lot about the woods here than you do, we could leave this afternoon" he added.
"It's settled then," I said.
That afternoon, we packed a whole lot of food, a gun (just in case), and he also brought a radio!
"But there's no signal here," I said
"There's a nearby town not far from here," he said
We traveled 5 miles more to the south. And we found a place to rest for the night.
"Thanks for coming with me, if you hadn't come, I would've been lost already," I said.
"I had lots of fun coming with you too, can I tell you something that I have never told anyone yet?" he asked
"Of course, I promise I won't tell anyone" I promised
"When I was born, my parents said that I was the greatest fighter, that I used to defeat the beast and send him away because it was going to destroy our house. Whenever I was mad, my hands would burn and flames would burst out, my eyes would turn bright orange and when I pointed to something the object would burn. At that time, my mom got very sick because she got poisoned by something she ate. So every night I would pray God to help my mom survive and when she didn't I was so furious, I went to the beast's cave and destroyed it. I was only six and I had that much power, it's beyond powerful, and ever since then the beast was furious, raged, and started scaring all the animals in the forest. And ever since then, I never used that power ever again" explained Hector
"Oh, wow, I would never believe that a little kid would be able to defeat the beast, but it's a great story" I commented
We came to a cliff and in the middle was a small bench. We could see all the forest from up there and we could see the sun setting on the horizon.
"This is the place where I would stay and think about my mom" he added
"Hector, I'm so sorry for you," I told him
"Don't worry about me, I'm fine" he said, I rested my head on his shoulder. And he put his arm around my shoulders and squeezed me.
