I looked down at Elsie standing by the wall and collected myself before walking over to her. I bent down the the floor and Adam followed suit. He was clearly trying to learn from how I handled situations.

"Elsie sweetie?" She turned my way with a shy smile on her face. She was going to be such a heart breaker when she grows up.

"How would you like to spend the day with me today? We could play some games on my iPad, go to the gift shop to get some books and read those and maybe even get an ice cream if we're both good?"

She smiled so hard I thought her cheeks would burst. She jumped up and down before running into me and jumping onto me. This time I grabbed Adam so not only did me and Elsie fall, but I brought him along the side of us!

"Elsie sweetheart, you really need to be more careful with the jumping."

She pulled back and jumped up on her feet.

"Sorry Fee-Fee and Uncie Adam!" She would've sounded sincere if she hadn't been giggling saying it.

I looked at Adam as we both lied there and just laughed along with her. She held her hand out to me and I pretended to use it to help me up, while Adam lifted himself off the floor.

"Are you using your office for the next couple of hours or are you doing rounds?"

"I'm on rounds. Why?"

"Would I be able to use it with Elsie. She looks exhausted and I bet she hasn't had a nap today. I was going to go buy a book in the gift shop and hopefully get her to drift off for an hour."

"Oh sure, that's fine. Just don't show anyone you're in there without me." I nod my head and hold my hand out for Elsie's hand.

"Uncie Adam come get a book?" She looked at him with those big blue eyes and I could see the turmoil in his eyes. I knew he had to go. He had work to do.

"Well, Uncle Adam has to go back to being a superhero now honey. It's fine though. You'll see him soon ok?" She smiles and nods eagerly.

"Can I have your phone to put my number into it in case you need me." Oh god. He's giving me his number. Remember Sophia, it's purely professional.

"Yeah of course. Would you like me to put mine in yours so that you can contact me when your on break?" He nods and we both swap phones and quickly type our numbers in. I save mine as Fee-Fee automatically and then instantly try to get it back but he takes his phone and laughs.

"Sorry it's a habit. You can just change it to Sophia."

"Maybe." Such an annoying man at times.

I walk away with Elsie in hand and make my way to the shop. I stand next to her as she looks for a book and phone my dad to quickly organise visits for my mum.

He's just on his way to the hospital when he answers through Bluetooth. He tells me that he'll be here for the rest of the day and for me to go home and have a break. It was good news because it meant I didn't have to worry about mum being alone but I still wanted to see her before the end of today's visiting.

I knew that Adam would have a break for his tea later so I would use that time to see mum before I go home.

When Adam walked into his office four hours later, Elsie and I were sat in his office chair colouring in a colouring book we bought in the shop.

"Hey, hows your day been Elsie?" She looks at him and smiles.

"I had a nap and Fee-Fee told me a story! It was weally good Uncie Adam." She carries on colouring and stays seated on my lap. She's so comfortable with me already.
