Adam's POV:
I sat next to Michael as we discussed the next few weeks on the rota. He and I were the lung specialists at the hospital and so we were asked to divvy up our schedules. It worked well at times because if ever I was stuck, he'd have Elsie with his wife and his daughter, Holly.
"So, you didn't really tell me why you wanted us to have Elsie? We don't care but you always give a reason and last night you were very evasive about it Ross." It makes me laugh that he still calls me by my last name.
"Needed some time to be able to take a lady out you know."
His eyebrows shoot to meet his hair line and I can't help but chuckle. I know. I get it. I haven't had a date for so long.
"So that's why the schedule has more of you working shorter hours? You want to spend your nights with Miss ....! What's her name?"
You'd swear he was a lot older than me but there's only a couple of years.
"Her names Sophia. She's...very different to the women I usually go for."
He smiles a very knowing smile. I guess he remembers the tall blonde women I usually dated and the very little amount of clothing they used to wear. I'm such a dick!
"Oh? In what way?" Just as I'm about to tell him, I spot Sophia storming into the coffee shop and sitting in the booth behind Michael. She's facing away so she can't see us. That and thankfully the booths are so high you can only see the tips of peoples heads.
"What?"
"That's her."
Michael turns in his seat and then stands to go and get another sugar from the stand in the corner. On his way back he puts his fist in his mouth and bites making a very distinct groaning noise.
"Damn! You're right. She's not like the ones you normally go for. She's a fucking sweetheart! What, blondes not doing it for you anymore?"
I glare at this man. Since when were we women who gossip about who the hell we're dating.
"Fuck off Harris!" His eyes widen but then a smile spreads on his face.
When he leans back he puts a finger to his mouth and we both hear someone say something about a date with a doctor. I look up a little and see Jason sitting next to another man who I'm guessing must be Dylan.
I listen carefully but I know I shouldn't be. This is so wrong but I just wanted to see what she thought of our date.
I hear Dylan say something about me being her mothers doctor and Michael glares at me.
"You met because of her sick mother? Dude, not ok!" I shook my head. Does he think I don't know that?!
I suddenly hear Sophia talking and we both become silent to listen to her. Her voice alone calms me and makes me want to run out of this booth and pull her to me.
"Dylan, for god sake! You can't say stuff like that. What if someone here knows who we're talking about?"
Oh the irony! Come on love, give me something.
"Oh come on Feefs! There's so many doctors here, they won't know which one we're discussing. Now, tell us. Why the secrets? How did it start?"
It's quiet for a while and I start to wonder what's going through her head. When did it start? I mean, does it count from the moment her beautiful face entered my office?
"I don't know. I mean the first time I met him was when we had a meeting for mum and obviously I didn't think anything about this then. I did question his capabilities as a doctor because he's quite young but he laughed it off. I mean, surely it's a compliment in some way right?"
