My aunt has a dog called Ginger. But Ginger does not have ginger fur. I have no idea why my aunt named her Ginger but that's just what she named her.
My aunt found Ginger at my grandmother's house 15 years ago. Ginger was abandoned by her previous owner as a puppy. She saw my aunt and started following her around. My aunt took her in and she has been taking care of her ever since.
Ginger is a black and white cocker spaniel. I did a quick Google search and learnt that cocker spaniels usually live to 14 years but, with exceptional care, have been known to live up to 16 years. My aunt surely has taken care of Ginger very well.
This morning, my grandmother told me about how Ginger probably couldn't live much longer. She said my aunt had taken care of Ginger for 13/14 years which my mum clarified is 15. Anyway, it was still a lot of years for a dog, even though my grandmother argued it was short. Never mind.
Just now, my mother told me how Ginger was so weak she couldn't even walk on her own. My aunt had to carry her downstairs to the grass patch to pee. She said my aunt was crying. After all, Ginger had been in her life for about 15 years. I haven't even been in my mother's life for 15 years (4 months and 5 days to go!).
I used to play with Ginger when I was younger but one incident really put me off. Ginger can't control her bladder when she's excited. When I was 4, I was playing with her and Ginger peed on the floor. And... I slipped on her urine... and cried... yeah... Ever since then, I sort of avoided her cuz no one wants to end up in a pile of dog's urine!!
Ginger is actually quite lovable. On one side of her body was a black patch shaped like a heart which is so cute. It's natural, I swear.
Due to old age, Ginger had skin problems which made her stink. All the more why I stayed away from her HAHA. But Ginger is still such a lovable creature. Sure, she barks, but she doesn't bite!
This morning, my aunt carried Ginger all the way to the vet. I don't know how things are going to go... Chinese New Year is coming. I hope she lives through CNY. Poor Ginger :((
