I Lost My Wallet

I lost my wallet last Wednesday, 5 days ago. I was getting late for the school bus so I put my phone, power bank, cable (to connect my phone to my power bank), earphones and wallet on my MacBook bag and I ran downstairs, via the stairs. That was probably when I dropped my wallet unknowingly. The downstairs of my house.

I only realised about an hour and a half later when I was in school just before morning assembly. When I returned back to the classroom, I checked my desk and confirmed my suspicions. My wallet was gone. I immediately texted my mother and told her about it. I asked her to help me check the house, then the staircase which I took down, then downstairs.

She did.

But there was no trace of my wallet.

3 hours later, I realised that my mother might've checked the wrong place downstairs because the place I caught the bus was a distance from the place I usually take the bus! My fears were confirmed when I called my mother after school. She had only checked the area where I usually board the bus. My bad.

When she went down to search, it wasn't even 8 am which was a really good time because the stores weren't even open and there were fewer people wandering around. It was such a good chance to find my wallet. Maybe at that time, my wallet was lying on the floor, on the road, at the place I boarded the school bus.

I was really upset. I was upset at the school bus and I was more upset at myself. My school bus is an extremely wonderful school bus. It is supposed to pick me and my friend up at 6.15 am but it always comes 3-5 minutes late, yet it wouldn't wait for you for more than a minute. I always reach school at 6.45 am which is 15 minutes before 7 am when everyone who takes the school bus is to reach the school and also 45 minutes before school starts!

My mother also called the school bus uncle to check whether I had dropped my wallet on the school bus but it was not to be found. I even checked it personally the following morning and there was no sign of it.

During recess on Wednesday, I went to the General Office. Perhaps I had dropped my wallet when I got down the school bus and hadn't realised. Nope, not there! Sigh...

That was when I confirmed that I dropped my wallet downstairs my house. I went home and got chided by my mother who told me that I should've specified the place I had boarded the bus. It was entirely my fault, I knew. I was the one who lost the wallet and I was the one who threw my best chance to find my wallet away. I was the one who messed things up.

In my wallet was $27 (SGD) and 3 cards: my student pass (EZ link card. I use it to board public transport and it's some sort of an identification card since I don't have my IC yet), my Popular membership card (it gives a 10% discount when I buy things from the Popular bookshop. I can't lose it because it was illegal for me to have it since it's a replica of the original one. I can't even cancel that card cuz it would end up cancelling the original card too. As I said, it's a copy.), and my library card (it lets me borrow books from the library).

I'm more concerned about my student pass and my Popular card. My student pass is not even a year old since I just got it last year after replacing an old one in July 2018. My Popular card, as I mentioned earlier, is a replica of the "legal card" even though my card is the original card, actually. I changed my card so I was supposed to return the old card but my mother returned the older card since both of us need a Popular card so why not? Take chances. She returned the Silver card which was a special edition card to celebrate 20 years of Popular. If I lost my copy of the Popular membership card, she returned that card for nothing.

The standard procedure when you lose your cards is to cancel all of them, right? Well, I can't cancel my Popular card because, again, it's a copy! If I want to cancel the card I lost, I have to cancel the card I have too. About my library card, it doesn't matter because I can always get a new one. Besides, it's already 7 years old and very dirty. It really needs to be replaced.
