Wendy and her group have been trapped by vipers, which now block their exit, but the vipers' master, Bourbon, is dead.
"Are you telling us that the person who set this trap is now dead? But how?" Asked Kurapika. "Well, I killed him." Said Ponzu. Both Wendy and Kurapika gasp. "But my methods are a trade secret." Said Ponzu. Kurapika thought for a minute. "Hey, Wendy, take Leorio." Said Kurapika. Wendy nodded. Kurapika lets go of Leorio. Kurapika walks towards Bourbon and tries to touch him, but the snakes instantly went towards their master and protected him like a shield. Kurapika steps back. "It's no use." Said Ponzu. "I'm sorry, but you won't be able to search him." Said Ponzu. "The snakes are trained, and if you even try to touch him or you try to leave the cave and escape, every single one of them will attack you." Explained Ponzu. Kurapika looked at Bourbon's hands. His hands were swollen. "So you fought poison with poison." Said Kurapika. "Judging by his wounds, you must have used Neurotoxic Bees, so it's likely that he died of Anaphylactic shock." Said Kurapika. "Anaphylactic? What is that?" Asked Wendy. "When a bee stings a human, certain antibodies are produced in an attempt to counter the effects of the bee's venom, but if that person is stung again by the same kind of bee, they will experience an allergic reaction. An extreme allergic reaction is known as Anaphylactic shock. Depending on the circumstances, it can be fatal." Explained Kurapika. Ponzu smiles. "That's what happened. You got me." Said Ponzu. "So you killed him with bees?" Asked Wendy. Ponzu's smile quickly went away. "Bourbon was who I drew as my target." Said Ponzu. "Once I'd confirmed he was inside the cave, I sprayed sleeping gas into the entrance, then waited until it was safe to go in." Explained Ponzu. "When I found him, Bourbon was completely passed out, but he had already set up his traps." Explained Ponzu. "And unfortunately for me, there were snakes in the back of the cave hiding in crevices. I guess the sleeping gas didn't reach them." Said Ponzu. "I was able to jump out of the way just in the nick of time, so I didn't get bitten by them or anything." Said Ponzu. "But that's what triggered my own defenses to activate." Said Ponzu. Ponzu tapped on her hat and thousands of bees had come out. Wendy gasped. "That's where you keep all your bees?" Said Kurapika. "If I scream, collapse, or anything like that, these little guys will attack anyone nearby." Said Ponzu. "But I wasn't expecting him to die, though. How could I have known he was allergic to bees? And the snakes kept me from helping him." Said Ponzu. "Well, not like I could've done anything." Said Ponzu. "You can come back now." Said Ponzu while circling her finger. The bees went back inside Ponzu's hat. "The problem is the person who set the trap in the first place died without ever having the chance to deactivate it, and we can't exactly disarm it or ask him for help. We're trapped with no hope for escape." Said Ponzu. Leorio starts to wake up. "Leorio." Said Wendy. Ponzu sighs. "So it's hopeless. I gave up. We're stuck until the Exam Committee comes and saves us." Said Ponzu. "The Exam Committee? Are you saying they'll rescue us from this cave?" Said Kurapika. "You didn't know? Each of our number badges contain transmitters. The Examiners know where all the applicants are located at all times, and if someone hasn't returned by the deadline, they go out and look for them." Explained Ponzu. "However, If it's lost or stolen, then you're on your own. Luckily, there's only one more day left. Best to just give up for this year and wait for help." Said Ponzu. "We can't do that." Said Kurapika. "The Examiners aren't going to budge 'til it's past the deadline. If you don't have your badge, you'll be left for dead." Said Ponzu. It was silent again. "Kurapika." Said Wendy. "Take care of Leorio." Said Wendy. "But, Wendy." Said Kurapika. "It's there. I can't smell it. "Don't worry." Said Wendy. "Wendy." Said Kurapika. Wendy gets up and walks over to Bourbon. "Are you crazy? What are you doing? Didn't you hear a word I just said?" Said Ponzu. Wendy was trembling. The snakes hissed at Wendy. Wendy puts out her hand. Ponzu screams. The snakes go right after Wendy. Wendy grabs Bourbon and the snakes opened their mouth and had surrounded Wendy. "She-She's our of her mind." Said Ponzu. The snakes are squeezing Wendy and Wendy goes diving into Bourbon. Until Wendy finally grabs the antidote. "Found it!" Yelled Wendy. Ponzu and Kurapika were shocked. "She-She knew that she was going to get bitten and she grabbed the antidote for herself? She's insane!" Thought Ponzu. "Kurapika! Catch!" Said Wendy. Wendy throws Kurapika the antidote. "Wendy!" Said Kurapika. Wendy falls to the ground and the snakes get off of Wendy and return to their master. Kurapika gets the needle and puts it on Wendy. "I don't believe it. She jumped into a nest of snakes looking for an antidote she wasn't sure was there. That's risky." Said Ponzu. "You must be really good friends." Said Ponzu. Wendy wakes up and Wendy had an idea. "Hey, do you have any of your sleeping gas left over?" Asked Wendy. "I do." Said Ponzu. "Will you trade it for this?" Said Wendy. Ponzu gasps. "That's Bourbon's badge!" Said Ponzu. "And if you had it, it would give you the six points you need." Said Wendy. "So she wasn't just getting the antidote. She also got Bourbon's badge!" Thought Ponzu. "Yeah. That's right. But, uh, what are you planning to do with it, the sleeping gas?" Asked Ponzu. "Use it. We'll put all the snakes to sleep. Then we can escape." Said Wendy. "Releasing it in here would be much more effective than what I used it at the entrance. Within five minutes, the cave will fill with gas, knocking all the snakes out cold." Said Ponzu. "That's five whole minutes, which is way longer than anyone can hold their breath." Said Ponzu. Wendy got up and started to stretch. "I mean, what's the point in trying if we're all just going to put ourselves to sleep in the process?" Asked Ponzu. "20 minutes and 21 seconds." Said Wendy. "What?" Said Ponzu. "My record for holding my breath. Heh." Said Wendy. Ponzu was surprised. "You can count on me. I'll carry you out of here." Said Wendy. Ponzu thought for a minute. "Why should I trust you? You're just gonna leave me here and escape by yourself." Said Ponzu. "You believe that? You saw what she did. Wendy braved a nest of venomous snakes." Said Kurapika. "I have never ever betrayed someone and I never will." Said Wendy. "Trust me. I'll get you out. I promise." Said Wendy. Ponzu sighs. Ponzu got out her sleeping gas. "It's ready to go." Said Ponzu. "Wait for my signal. Then release the gas." Said Wendy. "Ready and waiting." Said Ponzu. Wendy takes a deep breath. Wendy gives Ponzu a thumbs up for the ready signal. Ponzu nodes and opens up the Sleeping gas. Lots of gas start to come out. Ponzu passes out. "199, 200, 201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 206..." Said Wendy counting to herself.
Meanwhile outside of the cave, smoke was coming out of the cave. Suddenly lots of figures come out of the cave. A girl with long hair comes out of the cave. The girl exhales. "All right!" Said Wendy while carrying Ponzu, Kurapika, and a Leorio. "Well, I'll leave Bourbon's badge here with you so the committee can find you." Said Wendy. Wendy had gave Ponzu Bourbon's badge and placed it on her lap. Wendy opened Ponzu's backpack and got her badge. "Yours goes to Leorio. That way, he'll have his six points, and he can pass. Consider it a small fee for saving you. Sorry 'bout that!" Said Wendy sticking her tongue out.
The next morning. The ship comes back on the island to get all the applicants. "Phase four of the Hunter Exam is now officially over." Said Khara over the loud speaker. "All remaining applicants, please return to the starting point at once." Said Khara. "You will be given one additional hour to make your way back. If you still haven't returned by the time that hour is up, you will fail the exam." Said Khara. "Furthermore, exchanging badges at the starting point is prohibited." Said Khara. "Any attempt to do so will result in immediate disqualification." Said Khara.
All of the applicants have arrived at the starting point. "Now we will check the badges of everyone present here." Said Khara. "#44, Mr. Hisoka. "#53, Mr. Pokkle. #99, Mr. Killua. #301, Ms. Azre. #191, Mr. Bodoro. #294, Mr. Hanzo." Said Khara. "So only six applicants have passed? Oh, wait!" Said Khara. Khara had seen three people had come out of the forest. "Wendy!" Said Killua. "Three more. You're certainly cutting it close, aren't you?" Said Khara. Killua gave Wendy a thumbs up. "Killua." Said Wendy. Wendy gave Killua a thumbs up. Wendy looked down and saw Hisoka. Both of them had made contact. "Now the last three. They are #404, Mr. Kurapika. #403, Mr. Leorio. And #405, Ms. Wendy." Said Khara. "So these nine applicants have passed the Fourth Phase of the Exam!" Said Khara excitedly. Netero laughs. "Six of the nine that have passed are rookies? Marvelous! Marvelous!" Said Netero happily. "Has that ever happened before?" Asked Buhara. "Ah, well, there has been a trend lately. We'll sometimes go several years in a row without a single rookie worthy of qualifying, and then we'll suddenly have a whole bunch of promising newbies apply." Said Netero. "This makes four times since I became Chairman." Said Netero. "By the way, sir, what will we be doing for the Final Phase?" Asked Satotz. "Oh, yeah, that's right. You haven't told us what you have planned yet. " Said Buhara. "Ah, yes. Well, about that, they'll be participating in a peculiar fight." Said Netero. "Hmm? A peculiar fight, you say?" Said Satotz. "Gather the nine remaining applicants. I'd like to speak with each of them alone." Said Netero.
Meanwhile where Wendy, Leorio, and Kurapika were. "Damn it, I'm so pathetic. The whole Fourth Phase, I relied on you two to do everything for me. I promise I'll return the favor. So, uh, well, thanks, you guys." Said Leorio. Wendy smiles. A ding sound went off over the speaker. "Attention, all applicants." Said Bean over the speaker. "The Chairman wishes to interview you." Said Beans. "Really?" Said Leorio. "When you hear your number, come to the receptionist room on the second floor." Said Beans. "We'll start with number 44, Mr. Hisoka." Said Beans. Wendy turned her head away from Leorio and Kurapika.
Meanwhile in the Receptionist room.
"Please, make yourself comfortable." Said Netero. "Don't tell me that this is the Final Phase." Said Hisoka. "Not the test itself, you understand. I just have a few questions, mostly to satisfy my own curiosity." Said Netero. Hisoka chuckles. Hisoka takes his seat. "To start with, why do you want to become a Hunter?" Asked Netero. "To be frank, I don't, but..." Hisoka thought for a moment. "Go on." Said Netero. "A Hunter license can be incredibly useful." Said Hisoka. "Oh? And how so?" Asked Netero. "For example, Hunters can often kill without any fear of prosecution." Said Hisoka. "I understand. Moving on to the next question." Said Netero. "Out of the other eight applicants, which are you keeping a close eye on?" Asked Netero. Hisoka thought for a moment. "Number 99." Said Hisoka. "Oh." Said Netero. "405 also caught my eye, but not like 99. I would love to challenge him one day." Said Hisoka. Hisoka chuckles. "Well, one last question, and we're done." Said Netero. "Which of the other eight remaining applicants would you least want to fight?" Asked Netero. Hisoka thought for moment. "That would be number 405, though 99's a close second." Said Hisoka. "Ah." Said Netero. "The time simply isn't right. As for now, I'd have to say number 405." Said Hisoka. "Hmm. Understood." Said Netero. Hisoka has a big grin on his face. "However, the one I would most like to fight right now...would have to be you." Said Hisoka with a big grin. "Well, thank you very much. That'll be all." Said Netero. Hisoka has left the room. "That is one sly old man." Thought Hisoka. Hisoka stopped waking and put on a huge grin. "He left himself so open that I lost my edge." Thought Hisoka.
Meanwhile the next applicant, #53, Pokkle was next. "I'm keeping an eye focused on number 404. He's the most well-rounded applicant." Said Pokkle. "But I don't want to fight with 44, because I don't think I could beat him." Said Pokkle. The next applicant, #99, Killua. "Well, Wendy. We're childhood friends and the were same age." Said Killua. "Who I don't want to fight, though, is number 53. I don't think It'd be very fun at all." Said Killua. The next applicant, #191, Bodoro. "I'm keeping a watchful eye on number 44. You can't help but notice him." Said Bodoro. "Numbers 405 and 99 are out, however. I simply will not fight children." Said Bodoro. The next applicant was #301, Azre. "Number 405 and number 44." Said Azre. The next applicant, #405, Wendy. "Who am I keeping an eye on? Hisoka, number 44. He's on my mind the most, anyway." Said Wendy. Wendy sighs. "But there's no way I could ever pick number 99, number 403, or number 404." Said Wendy. The next applicant, #294, Hanzo. "It has to be 44. He's obviously the most dangerous applicant." Said Hanzo. "The one I'd least want to meet in combat is also 44." Said Hanzo. The next applicant was #404. "I'm watching 405 purely for positive reasons, 44 for negative reasons." Said Kurapika. "I will fight anyone if there's a reason. Otherwise, I'd rather not fight at all." Said Kurapika. The next and final applicant was #403, Leorio. "Number 405. I owe her, and sure hope she passes." Said Leorio. "That's why she's the one I really don't want to fight." Said Leorio. After Netero was done interviewing every remaining applicant he looked at the list. "Hmm, I see. This is more lopsided than I expected." Said Netero.
Meanwhile where Wendy was. Wendy was by herself and looking at the clouds. "Wendy." Said Kurapika. Wendy turned around. "So we made it to the Final Phase." Said Kurapika. Wendy nodded. Then turns around to look back at the clouds with a displeased face. Kurapika gasps.
Meanwhile in the Receptionist room. Netero had painted a graph for the Final Phase. "That'll do it." Said Netero.
Meanwhile in the Examiners dinning room. Netero opened the door. "Sorry to keep you all waiting." Said Netero. "I've drawn up the brackets." Said Netero. "Huh?" Said Menchi. "What's this?" Asked Satotz. Netero had showed the graph to the examiners. "But-but, Chairman!" Said Buhara. Everyone gasped. "Come on! You can't be serious!" Said Buhara. Netero laughs. "Oh, I am quite serious." Said Netero. "That look. He's serious indeed." Said Satotz. "That's a serious look? You sure?" Asked Menchi. "The winners will pass the Exam and earn the title of Hunter." Said Netero.
Meanwhile where Wendy is. The air is quite. Wendy has not said a word to her friends about what had happened in the Fourth Phase. "Wendy." Said Kurapika. "Hmm?" Said Wendy. "Did something happen in the Fourth Phase?" Asked Kurapika. Wendy didn't answer. "Since we met up, you've been acting strangely, and I'm getting concerned." Said Kurapika. "Ever since we left Zevil Island, you've seem rather quite." Said Kurapika. Wendy sighed. "My target was Hisoka." Said Wendy. Kurapika gasps. "I waited for the perfect chance and stole his badge." Said Wendy. "But someone else was following me, and he got me with a poison dart." Said Wendy. "After that, Hisoka showed up and took his badge from the guy who took it from me and then left it." Said Wendy. "He said I owed him now." Said Wendy. "He really said that?" Said Kurapika. "I Said I didn't need it, and he scent me flying." Said Wendy. Wendy thought about what had happened and what Hisoka had said. "I was just so mad at myself." Said Wendy. "I couldn't do anything. I was helpless against him." Said Wendy. Suddenly tears start rolling onto Wendy's face.

"And when he left, I felt so miserable and lonely

"And when he left, I felt so miserable and lonely. It was just awful." Said Wendy. Wendy wipes away her tears and smiles. "I guess it hurt to realize that I wasn't strong enough to challenge him. But after that day I felt better again. I guess you could say that I'm used to being hit around like this." Said Wendy. "Wendy." Said Kurapika. Wendy turned around. "Without your assistance, Leorio and I never would have made it this far." Said Kurapika. "Thank you for everything." Said Kurapika. Wendy smiles.
Wendy and her friends have grown closer, and the nine remaining applicants are about to enter the Exam's Final Phase.
