Days went by and Noah was still being a dick to Steve. The poor guy tried so hard to keep up with the training and everything, but he was still a nobody to all the other soldiers. To make it even worse for him, his best friend Bucky got moved to a different squadron. He was strong tho. Not as in he had a lot of muscles but as in he didn't give up. He really wanted this and you could see it in his eyes. He was determined. I admired that in him. It kind of reminded me of myself.

Today was a day like any other day: filled with lots of training and Noah being a dick. Or atleast it started like that. Something weird happened while we were training. While we were training, the colonel came to check up on us. But he was not alone, he had an older man with him. The man had gray hair, and he wore round glasses. He was smaller than the colonel. I had never seen him before. In the corner of my eye I could see them talking and looking at Steve. That couldn't be good. A bit later, the colonel wallked to the truck and I knew something was off. He grabbed a grenade and pulled out the plug. "Grenade!!". He threw it in the middle of our group. Everyone ran and hid behind something. Except for me and... Steve? I was about to jump on the grenade to minimize the blast, but before I could, Steve did exactly the same. "Y/N get back!" he yelled, but I kinda just froze? When the grenade didn't go off and the colonel told us it was a dummy grenade, I let out a sigh of relief. I walked up to Steve and helped him up. "Don't you ever do that again Steve. You scared the shit out of me". He smiled a little: "That doesn't maken any sense Y/N". I raised my eyebrow and gave him a confused look. "Oh come on, you were about to do the same." He said. I shook my head and returned a little smile.

- Time skip to the evening -

Steve and I were sitting on our bed in the barrack. The other soldiers were outside but since we didn't really belong in the group, the 2 of us were in our barrack. He was reading a book and I was drawing in my sketchbook. It was quiet, but not the awkward kind of quiet. It was comfortable. I glanced at Steve, bitting on the end of my pencil. He looked so peaceful, yet strong willed and determined to make this world a better place. Steve must've felt my eyes on him because he looked up, giving me a sweet smile. I returned that smile, a blush creeping up on my cheecks, and I returned my gaze to my sketchbook. We sat like that for a while untill we heard a knock on the door. The door opened softly and the older man that had been talking to the colonel walked in. "May I?" he asked and Steve nodded. I sat up "Euhm, do you want me to leave?" I asked, not sure what to do. The man was about to say something when Steve spoke up: "Can she stay? Please? She's a really close friend and I trust her with my life." I smiled at him: "Steve it's okay, I'll be right outside." The man looked at me: "You can stay. I actually wanted to talk to both of you."

The man had a thick accent. Either Russian or German, I'm not sure. I sat down next to Steve and the man sat on my bed. Steve looked at the man: "Why me?" I raised my eyebrow at Steve. Apparently he knew why this man was here. The man stayed quiet for a while, then he looked at us: "I suppose that is the only question that matters." he said, looking at the bottle of booze he was holding. "This is from Ausburg, my city." He said out of nowhere, not answering Steve's question. He started to talk about "his people" after Hitler invaded his country, about how Hitler (or more specific Johan Schmidt, the head of Hydra) found him and some more stuff. I'm not gonna bother you with the rest of the story. Then he told us about a serum Johan used. How it makes you stronger, but it amplifies everything: good becomes great and bad becomes worse. He looked at Steve and then at me. "This is why you 2 were chosen." He said.
