Steve and I were baffled. The other guy walked up to us: "With all due respect to the colonel, I think we may be missing the point. I've seen you 2 in action. More importantly, the country's seen it." He motioned to a smaller guy with a hat: "paper." The guy showed us a paper. "The enlistment lines have been around the block since your picture hit the newsstands." I grabbed the newspaper and looked at it: "Nazis in New York. Mystery man and woman save child." I blinked a few times, not believing my eyes. Underneath the tittle, it showed a picture where Steve was protecting us both with the car door. I was so focused on the paper that I didn't really listen to the conversation until the man placed a hand on mine and Steve's shoulder: "Do you 2 want to serve your country on the most important battlefield of the war?" Steve looked at me, then back at the man: "Sir, that's all we want." The man shook our hand: "then congratulations. You 2 just got promoted." A little smile appeared and I let out a sigh of relief.

Steve and I were walking back to our barrack. "You seem excited." Steve spoke up and he pulled me from my thoughts. "Of course I am!", I replied excitedly and I smiled at him, "We just got a promotion! We finally get the chance to serve our country" , my smile faded , "and to avenge Dr. Erskine. We're gonna take down these Hydra bastards." Steve looked down, nodding in agreement. "We are."

~Time skip to the next day~

Steve and I spent the entire day waiting in our barrack. Time seemed to pass so slow. We walked around the base, we ate breakfast and lunch,  we drew, we read, we threw a ball, and eventually we ate dinner. I was way less excited than yesterday. I was poking my food and Steve smiled at me. I looked up at him, kind of annoyed: "What?" I put down my fork. "Nothing." , he replied, "You just seem way less excited than you were yesterday." I hummed: "yeah well when they said we'd get a promotion I expected to be able to get to work first thing in the morning, but instead we're stuck at the base, so maybe I'm a little bit dissapointed." as if on cue, a guy walked up to us: "Ah there you are! I've been looking for you guys. Come on, follow me." I finished my glass of water and got up to follow to guy, Steve smiling at how excited I was.

I looked at the guy who gave us the suits: "I'm not doing that." I said. I was mad. This wasn't a promotion, this was embarrassing. They wanted us to perform in front of thousands of people in some stupid suit. Steve sighed: "I don't know if I can do this." My eyes widdened and I looked at him: "Wait wait wait, don't tell me you're actually thinking about doing this. They said we'd get a promotion Steve. They said we'd be able to serve our country. This is far from it!" Steve was about to say something, but the guy was faster: "Look you wanna serve your country, this is the way to do it. There's nothing to it. You sell a few bonds. Bonds buy bullets and bullets kill Nazis. It's as simple as that. You 2 are American heroes." Steve sighed again: "Yeah well it's just not how we pictured getting there. We thought we were finally allowed to go out in the field." The guy was getting annoyed and you could see it, he rolled his eyes: "The Senator has got a lot of pull up on the hill. You play ball with us, you 2 will be leading your own platoon in no time." He said while Steve and I put our masks on. "Oh before I forget, take the shield". He handed Steve a shield. It was showtime.

Steve and I ran out on stage. When we ran out, a bunch of girls started dancing and singing. There were so many people there to watch us and suddenly I felt even more embarrassed. "Not all of us can storm a beach or drive a tank, but there's still a way all of us can fight." Steve read the papers on the back of his shield. I stood behind him, kind of like on the picture they put in the paper. "Series E defence bonds.", I started reading, "Each one you buy is a bullet in the barrel of your best Guy's gun!" I smiled at the people and I tried to look as confident as possible. Steve and I walked to the side and the girls took our place again. Eventually the girls lined up and Steve and I stood in front of them: "We all know this is about trying to win the war. We can't do that without bullets and bandages, tanks and tents." it was Steve's turn to speak again. I pointed at the people: "That's where you come in. Every bond you buy, will help protect someone you love. Keep our boys armed and ready." Some kids started yelling that we should turn around and that he was right behind us, "he" being Hitler. It was Steve's turn again: "And the Germans will think twice about trying to get the drop on us." "Hitler" pushed trough the girls, Steve turned around and "punched" him in the face, which lead to the people giving us an applause.
