I narrowed my eyes and looked at Dr. Abraham Erskine (apparently that was his name). "Wait what? What do you mean that's why I picked you 2? I- I mean I understand why you picked Steve, but me? I'm just- I'm a nobody?". Dr. Erskine smiled a bit and Steve looked at me: "Y/N what do you mean you're a nobody? Everyone admires you, they respect you?". I looked at Steve, his bright blue eyes locking with my Y/E/C eyes, and I shook my head: "Maybe in here they do,", I said, "but that's only because there aren't a lot of women in the army. When I'm "off duty", I'm a nobody. Nobody cares about me, not even my parents. That's part of the reason I joined the army. Not just because I wanted to, but also because no one would miss me. Maybe somewhere a father is playing with his kids right now instead of training to go to war because I joined in his place and that makes being a nobody worth it. If something happened to that dad, he would be missed. " Dr. Erskine spoke up: "You just answered your own question Y/N." I raised an eyebrow. Did he mean that he chose me because I'm a nobody? Because I'm replaceable? "You're selfless. You care more about other people than you care about yourself. You wanna save other people. With this serum, good becomes great remember? Imagine what it would make the 2 of you.". He smiled at us and that's when it clicked. He needed supersoldiers with a good heart and those supersoldiers would be me and Steve...

"Give me that." Dr. Erskine pointed at the empty glasses. I gave them to him and he poured some booze into them. "Whatever happens tomorrow you must promise me one thing." he said. Steve and I looked at Dr. Erskine. "That you will stay who you are. Not a perfect soldier but...", he stayed quiet for a bit, looking at both of us, "a good man and a good woman." He pointed at our hearts. We smiled a bit and nodded. Steve took a deep breath and raised his glass: "To the little guys" he said, and we clinked our glasses. Right when me and Steve were about to drink, Dr. Erskine stopped us: "wait wait what am I doing. You have the procedure tomorrow. No fluids." He took our glasses and poured the drinks into his own glass. I chuckled a bit at the disappointed look on Steve's face: "Alright, then we'll drink it after." he said, but it didn't look like Dr. Erskine was gonna leave any for us.

- Time skip to the next day -

Steve, Peggy and me were on our way to... to... eeuhm, now that I think about it, where were we going? I know it was the day of the procedure, but I had no idea where we were going. "I know this neighborhood." Steve spoke up, disturbing my thoughts. I looked at him and he started pointing out every place he got beat up... my face saddened and my heart broke a little. He really didn't deserve that. I wanted to say something, but Peggy beat me to it. She sighed quietly and glanced at him, then she continued to look in front of her. "Did you have something against running away?". God her English accent was beautiful. Steve shook his head. "You start running they'll never let you stop. You stand up, you push back. They can't say no forever, right?" Steve looked at his lap. I respected him. He got beat up so many times, but he never ran from a fight even tho he knew he could't win it. "I know a little of what that's like, to have every door shut in your face." I gave her a sad smile. I understood exactly wat she was talking about. "I think all 3 of us know what it's like to have every door shut in your face..." I finally spoke up, looking out of the window remembering the struggle I had to go trough to get into the army.

We arrived at an antique store "Brooklyn antiques". I raised an eyebrow at Steve and he shrugged. We got out of the car and I noticed a few guys watching us. I wasn't comfortable with that. It gave me a weird feeling. We followed Peggy inside and as soon as we walked in an old woman walked out of the back. She looked at Peggy: "Wonderful weather this morning, isn't it?"."Yes, but I always carry an umbrella." Peggy replied. The woman walked over to the counter and pressed a button. Steve, Peggy and I walked trough the curtain the woman came trough when we walked in. Peggy stopped in front of a massive bookcase. When it opened,my eyes widened a bit. I have to admit that I did not expect that. When we continued, Steve looked around in awe. He clearly didn't expect that either. I was nervous. Really nervous and Steve seemed to notice. He nudged my arm and gave me a reassuring smile: "It's gonna be okay Y/N. You can do this." I gave him a nod and returned the smile: "We can do this." and with that, we walked trough the metal doors...
