I carefully got closer, but when I got there the cube had burned it's way trough the floor and it fell out of the plane. Steve ran towards the chair. I walked up next to him: "What are we gonna do?". I looked at Steve's. His expression said enough. Even tho we beat Schmidt, I could see defeat on his face. The hope in his once so bright blue eyes was gone. He was scared. I looked down: "We-", I swallowed hard, "We are going to die, aren't we...?". My voice was shaking and I was fighting back the tears.
Steve slowly nodded. "I'm- I'm gonna have to put it in the water.". He turned around and looked at me: "I'm gonna need you to get out of here Y/N. Go and look for a parachute or something". I shook my head: "Forget it, that's not happening. I'm not leaving you behind!". Tears started to roll down my cheek. Steve stood up and grabbed my hands, a tear rolling down his cheek as well: "Y/N please I cant let you die." I looked away for a second and bit my lower lip, angry that he wanted me to leave him behind, before looking back at him, locking eyes with him: "Damned Steve I love you, I'm not leaving you behind! I can't - I can't lose you."
My lower lip trembled, and Steve was studying my face, his eyes narrowing a little bit. I gave him a sad smile: "So that's what it takes to admit that I love you.", I scoffed, "Dying, but I had to tell you because after this I'd probably never have the chance again." Before I knew it, Steve's lips were on mine, cupping my face with his hands. His lips were warm, and surprisingly soft. After a few seconds, Steve pulled back, not breaking eye contact and not letting go of my face: "And that's why I need you to go Y/N", he spoke softly, "I need you to go because I love you. I won't let you sacrefice yourself." I shook my head: "It's my choice Steve. If I was the one sitting in that chair, asking you to leave, you wouldn't do it either. I'm staying. And I'm okay with dying by your side."
Steve let out a sigh, he knew I wasn't gonna leave. "I have to let Colonel Philips know what's going on". I nodded and he sat back down in the chair: "Come in. This is Captain Rogers, do you read me?". "Captain Rogers, what is your-" the voice got cut off by Peggy: "Steve, is that you? are you guys all right?". "Peggy, Schmidt's dead!", Steve replied while pushing some buttons. "What about the plane?" she wondered. "That's a different story" I spoke up. "Give me your coordinates. I'll find you a safe landing site.". Steve shook his head, looking at the little screen, showing some of the engines were no longer working: "There's not gonna be a safe landing. But I can try and force it down." "I- I'll get Howard on the line. He'll know what to do." She stuttered, her voice laced with sadness. "There's not enough time. This thing's moving too fast and it's heading for New York. I got to put her in the water"
"Please, don't do this. We have time. We can work it out." Peggy pleaded. "Right now we're in the middle of nowhere Peggy, if we wait any longer a lot of people are gonna die..." I sighed. It stayed quiet for a while until Steve spoke up: "Peggy, this is our choice." I placed my hand on Steve's shoulder, giving it a little squeeze as a tear ran down my cheek. Steve grabbed my hand from his shoulder and held on to it while directing the plane into the water. "Peggy?" I softly spoke. "I'm here." She replied quietly. "Thank you for everything. Don't give up fighting the good fight okay?" I heard her sniffle quietly trough the radio. "We're also gonna need a raincheck on that drink." Steve spoke up. "Okay. A week, next saturday, at the Stork Club." "You got it." Steve agreed. "8:00 on the dot. Don't you dare be late privates. Understood?" Steve and I looked at each other, a little smile on our lips, but our eyes filled with tears: "Yes Ma'am". we replied and after that, everything went black and I could rest in peace, knowing that we saved thousands of people and that I died with the love of my life by my side.
Hey guys! So that's the end of the story. I hope you liked it even if you have seen the movies. I know it's not really creative, but I wanted to write it like this because it has always been my dream irl to join the army. And because I can't because of personal reasons and because I love Captain America/Chris Evans I thought why not add an extra character (the reader) to the movie. If you want a second book or you have more ideas for stories, don't be afraid to let me know! I'd love to know what you thought of it and I'd love to know what else you guys would like to read. Anyways thank you so much if you read the entire book! I hope you have a great day 😊
