Steve dropped the mans lifeless body to the ground. He stared at the man and slowly stood up, breathing quite heavy and not taking his eyes off of the body. I scanned his face: "Steve...?". My voice was quiet and I walked over to his side. I placed one hand on his shoulder while clenching my ribs with the other hand and he looked at me. We locked eyes. His once bright blue eyes filled with hope were now blank and deprived of all hope. Our friend just got killed, and we couldn't make the man who did it pay. If we couldn't even do something this easy, why would we be able to do something bigger and more important?

Steve and I went back to base, not saying a word to each other. When we arrived, they immediately took us to some kind of doctors office. "You can sit on the table. We're gonna need some of your blood." a nurse said. Steve and I did as we were told and 2 nurses put a needle in our arm. I placed my hand on top of Steves: "You okay?" His shoulders were slumped and he looked down, but he nodded. "Steve..,", I placed my hand on his cheek, turning his head gently so he was facing me, "I've only known you for a couple of months, but I can see you're upset. and it's okay to be upset right now." "I'm not upset Y/N. I'm mad. I feel defeated. I thought that, since I'm strong, I'd finally be able to do something good, but-" "Let me stop you right there Rogers.", I interrupted, "You've done good things before. Even when you weren't this strong yet. You stood up to Noah countless of times when he was bothering me. You stood up to that guy in the cinema. Do you want me to keep going?" He gave me a small smile. "This isn't on you okay? We were both there, we did our best, but there's nothing we could've done to avoid this. We had no idea he had a cyanide pill."He nodded and it stayed quiet after that.

Peggy walked in just when the nurses took out the needles. "You think you got enough?" Steve asked, rolling down his sleeve. "Any hope of reproducing the program is locked in your genetic code. But without Dr. Erskine it would take years." Peggy explained, not taking her eyes off of Steve when we got up from the table. He didn't look at her tho, he just looked in front of him; "He deserved more than this." Peggy sighed: "if it could work only twice, he'd be proud it was you 2."

We left the doctors office and went somewhere else. Where? I don't really know and at the moment I didn't really care either. There were so many rooms that I couldn't remember the name of all of them or what they were for, but I did know we were going to see Howard. When we walked in, Howard was inspecting some kind of submarine. "Speaking modestly, I'm the best mechanical engineer in this country. But I don't know what's inside this thing or how it works. We're not even close to this technology" Howard said, looking at the submarine. "Then who is?" "Hydra. I'm sure you've been reading our briefings." The colonel was talking to another man. I think he may have been in the booth during the experiment cause his face seemed familiar. "I'm in a number of committees, Colonel." The man tried to defend himself. Peggy spoke up: "Hydra is the Nazi deep-science division. It's led by Johann Schmidt. But he has much bigger ambitions." Johann Schmidt... I recognized that name. Dr. Erskine told me and Steve about him.

The colonel told Peggy and Howard to pack their bags. They'd be going to London tonight to, as the colonel said it, "take the fight to Hydra". Steve turned toward the Colonel who was about to leave: "Sir? if you're going after Schmidt, I want in." The colonel turned around and looked at Steve: "You 2 are experiments. you're going to Alamogordo." I slightly widdened my eyes: "With all due respect Sir, but the serum worked?". He took as step closer to us: " I asked for an army and all I got was you 2. You are not enough." and with that, he walked off.
