Chapter 14

Morning came when Elijah still held Juliette closer to him as they were sleeping in the closet, the sound of the door knocking woke him up as he heard his uncle's voice. "Are you awake, Elijah? Juliette? Time to get up."

"We're just waking up! We'll be right down for breakfast! Just go, Issac."

"Alright."

He felt Juliette tugging his shirt, softly brushing her hair as he held her closer to him. "Thank you, for not letting me go."

"You don't have to worry about it anymore. You don't have to go through it alone, I'm here. When did you start talking to yourself? To Jason?"

"When I was 5. Always alone and had no one. Dad was working, Margaret didn't hid how she hated me. I started talking to myself whenever I feel alone, which was often. Talking to myself and then talking to Jason. And when the storm came I... I would hide where I didn't have to hear it anymore. It was hard and scary."

"Well as long as I'm around and if I see a cloud in the sky, I take you somewhere you don't have to hear it anymore. But if I'm not around and your dealing with it alone, just stay calm and remember the beating of my heart. The rhythm, remember it and know I'm there. With you."

"Thank you."

As they got dressed and made it to breakfast, Juliette smiled to Elijah which made Elijah happy and content.

"Savory oatmeal with cheeder and fried egg with the selection of drinks you like. Is that good for you, Juliette?"

"It's amazing. Thank you Alexander."

"How's your first night in the Anderson's estate? Everything you hoped for?"

"I have a good understanding of where the man I never met well. It's different but I enjoyed it. Especially being in the hedge."

"Good that you like it. Elijah, what did you say to the chief?!"

"It was I, Issac. Healthy breakfast for the boss."

"Alexander, father, please. For me?"

"Using the girl to do this to me?! Alright then. Get ready to leave, we have business to discuss with Joseph and you two need to be there. You should expect what's going on if one day you'll be the boss."

A few hours after arriving the MacGregor's estate, Joseph and Alexander were discussing the districts and both Juliette and Elijah listening and learning more.

"Let's name the five districts as The Big One. We're going to power the whole city and let's double the tax rate."

"In the wealthiest districts I assume. They have money and they should be paying that other then the lower class. Think about it, Districts 16 through 25 are barely making it and they have the normal tax rate."

"I like that. The rich think they don't need to pay but they do."

"I think it's time to take a trip to the dump."

"Dump?"

"Another word for Roach. Districts 26 through 40. I don't think Juliette is ready..."

"I took Elijah to District 40 when he was 8 years and when he turned 18. Let the girl visit the lowest District, how else would she know what's going on if she's going to be Boss."

"Can I? I always wanted to see it and see how it is. How else am I going to learn and handle the business if I haven't been to that District. Please?"

"You can go if... If Rebecca goes with you. She was raised there and I want her to be there with you. Same with Elijah with that Flynn boy."
