Harmony begins with that one simple, yet encompassing note...----------------------------------------------
[Alex' POV]
On our way to the Supermarket, I noticed Trevor looks like he's really enjoying himself, with a cheeky smile on his lips while looking ahead.
Come to think of it, it's just been us since we woke up this morning! Why didn't I realize that?!
It was only then when I noticed my cheeks turning warmer. Moreover, being this close to Trevor did not help one bit to calm my senses down.
Snap out of it Alex! Of course you will feel that way! Just look at how ruggedly handsome this guy is beside you!
Just when I was in the middle of a deep argument inside my mind, I felt a hand creep on my shoulders, dangerously close to my collarbone...
"Are you okay Alex? We're here already..." Trevor reminded me, pulling back to reality. As I started to look around, the car was already parked near the Supermarket.
"Huh? Oh yeah...we're here..." Was all my brain could process as Trevor stepped out the car to open the car door for me.
As I stepped out of the car, I noticed a puzzled and intrigued look on Trevor's face.
"What happened? Are you still tired after all that cleaning back at the apartment?" He asks.
"Oh! No, I'm okay! I was just... contemplating about what to cook for dinner tonight. I wanna impress Aunt Renee. She always teases me when I cook..." I said, making sure I don't look flushed just by being in the presence of this beautiful man beside me while we walked past the entrance of the Supermarket.
"That's okay! I'll help you!" Trevor confidently announced.
"Seriously? I never saw you as the meticulous type..." I joked at him.
"Hey! I cook most times back at our apartment. You saw how lazy Keith and Eaton could be. Also, you can't really trust Lana in the kitchen. She can only cook breakfast! That leaves me to cook for the remainder of day, especially when we're just chilling at the apartment..." Trevor said as if he's earned himself a medal or something.
"Well okay, Gordon Ramsay. I'll be expecting your skills later when we get back. But first, we gotta figure out what to make for dinner." I started to scrunch my nose while Trevor took the time to grab a shopping cart.
"How about we do lasagna?" Trevor suggested as he looks for the isle where to get lasagna.
"Hmmm...is it also okay if we get some fried chicken with that? I'm craving for it since I arrived town..." I added.
"I guess that settles it then. Lasagna and fried chicken for dinner." Trevor confirms, with me giving an excited nod. Moments later we're already on our way to the aisles...
~~~~~~~~
When we got back the apartment, Trevor started to move like we were in some cooking show or something - quickly, yet gently lining all the stuff we bought...
"Woah, wait a second! I'm pretty sure we're not contestants for Masterchef or something! Slow down Trev..." I laughably reminded him.
"Sorry 'bout that. Was just caught up with excitement. To be honest, I never thought I'd be so worked up over something like cooking dinner..." He childishly admitted whilst his right arm was up and his hand scratching the back of his head.
"Actually I feel a little bit excited too. it's feels like a family dinner or something..." I remarked.
Suddenly a we're just smiling at each other in silence, taking the moment to remember the last time we felt like this. All of sudden, I had the urge to ask him about his family life, but at the same time trying to keep myself from asking as Trevor might ask me about my life. With the bitter memories of my family taking over, I decided not to dwell on the topic and went back to enjoying this moment.
"Okay chef, why don't we start cooking? Our guests may be arriving very soon..." I urged Trevor and then pushed him to the counter where we started cooking dinner.
Trevor started prepping the things needed for the sauce for the lasagna, while I started with marinating the chicken. We worked trying to mimic how those cooking show contestants will try to slice through stuff. Trevor then started walking around the kitchen counter while making those silly 'serious' faces they make. I was just laughing the whole time.
~~~~~~~~
Around five in the afternoon, Aunt Renee arrived at the apartment, just in time for me to take the lasagna out of the oven. A few. moments later Lana and the others came too...
"Oh my sweet angel! Did you cook all this sweetie?" Aunt Renee exclaimed, very suprised.
"Wow! This lasagna looks perfect! It would be such a waste if these bozos were to eat it!" Lana said.
"Hey! Who're you calling bozos? You can't even cook dinner!" Keith retorts while Eaton backs him up, both earning a smack on the head from Lana.
"Okay everyone, let's settle down. I thought I'd cook for you guys because I'm very grateful to everyone of you for having me here. Also, Trev helped...so you can thank him for this wonderful dinner we're having tonight..." I said, making Aunt Renee almost tear up.
After that little speech, everyone started rummaging all the food at the table. Keith and Eaton was arguing whether which one will get the chicken leg, Aunt Renee and Lana gushing on about makeup, while there I was sitting across Trevor as he was staring at me while taking a spoonful of the lasagna.
It has been such a long time since I felt like I belonged - to have a place where everyone treats like a normal person, and not some celebrity they worship. Coming here seemed to have been a very wise decision indeed. It's like a start of a very harmonious symphony...
[Trevor's POV]
I was at the balcony smoking when I realized how Alex breathed life to a part of me I thought was dead for a while. That moment when we were looking at each other - I knew something inside me had started.
But at the same time I noticed how he quickly dodged the thought of talking about family earlier today. For a moment I saw sadness in those twinkling eyes. It's as if I saw a part of him that he doesn't want to show to anyone.
Suddenly I had the urge to protect those eyes, so that they don't show sadness anymore. I want to see nothing but happiness in those eyes - in Alex' eyes...
~~~~~~~~
Since the bar was closed tonight, we had to come back at our apartment. I was somehow running out of reasons to stay since Alex made it clear back at the Supermarket that no one was getting drunk tonight, and insisted on getting a few bottles of red wine instead.
I got a lucky break when Alex invited everyone to play some games. We decided on playing some Mario Kart since both Keith and Eaton brought their Nintendo Switches. We played until around midnight.
Renee thought it would be wise for us to stay at the apartment 'cause she wouldn't want us to goof around someplace to drain our energies. Alex happily (and innocently) agreed - he even asked me to sleep next to him since I was great today!
We enjoyed the night, until it was time to go to sleep. Keith and Eaton slept on the couches while Lana took the bed outside. Finally, I walked inside the room to see Alex already asleep, rolled over with his back facing me.
I slid to my side of the bed. I peeped into Alex' side to check on him. When he's quietly sleeping, I dozed off and thanked the stars for tonight.
It may look weird, but I think this guy sleeping beside me struck a chord in my heart - giving off the first of many notes of a harmony I never knew it can play. And I silently wished that this will not be the last...
