The girl at the door hesitated. She looked to be deciphering his tone before she answered. She tucked her bangs behind her ear and adjusted the duffel bag on her shoulder. She glared at the back of his head for a moment before looking at me. Her expression shifted to a half smirk, she set her shoulders back firmly and stomped over.
She dropped her bag on to the beta without a word. It hit with a thud and she sat down next to me.
"Jesus, did you bring your whole closet?" He asked.
"She's been here three days. I can't believe you are just now thinking she might need some shi-stuff." She stumbled over the curse word and the betas eyes narrowed.
"Watch your mouth." He said setting the duffel bag in front of me. "Rylan this is Cassy. She's brought you her closet apparently. It was supposed to be just some necessities... clothes, hair stuff, girl stuff..." He trailed off shaking his head. It almost made me smile. He looked like he was on the verge of a blush with the notion of 'girl stuff'.
"Socks, underwear, pants, shorts, shirts, tank tops, brush, hair ties, tooth brush; there's paste and shower stuff in the bathroom I'll show you; some make up, and tampons just in case." She counted off. I almost cringed at the mention of feminine hygiene products. I wouldn't need them but it was nice of her to think of it. "I'm sure there's more. Mom added stuff in there too. If you need anything else we can always just run over to my house and grab it. We can do that with the clothes too if you want to switch out anything."
"No." The beta said quickly, "Rylan has a strict perimeter until Silas gets back."
"Well Silas asked me to help her feel a little more at home. You know less like a prisoner. I can't really do that if you lock her in the house." Cassy said.
"Are you sassing me right now because I swear to god Cassidy Brogan you are not too old for me to give you a swirly." His tone was deadly as he sat up to glare at her. Her eyes narrowed.
"You wouldn't dare." She said. In a blink the beta pounced throwing Cassy over his shoulder.
"Rylan Help!" She screamed. I stood quickly. My white board hit the ground at my feet. I stared wide eyed as he began carrying her away. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what he was going to do to her. I didn't know how to help. He reached the steps and she redirected her pleas to him.
"Mercy! Uncle!" She squealed. He swatted her and took the first step. "Ok! Ok! Aaron is the best, I'm the worst. I'm sorry!" He stilled and set her down carefully. Her face was red but she was laughing. I had mistaken her laughter for crying. It took me a moment to realize what had just happened was some kind of game.
The betas smirk vanished as he took in my face.
"Rylan? She's ok. I would never hurt her." He said quickly. I looked at Cassy. My eyes were still wide with shock at what ever had just happened. I needed confirmation that he wasn't going to hurt her.
"A swirly is where they stick your head in the toilet and flush." She grumbled but her smile was still in place. I think my eyes widened more and I looked back at the beta. Maybe it wasn't physically harmful but I was shocked he would be so childish given his position.
"I've never done that to anyone. I swear. Cassy is just a baby and scares easily." He held up his hands innocently.
I was still in shock. I looked back and forth between them. Part of me was still afraid for Cassy even though she had, apparently, been in no danger.
