“I still can’t believe he’s really… dead”, Elena mumbled a few hours later.

“I can’t either”, Bonnie agreed.

Nobody said a word until Elena stood up and broke the silence. “Do you guys know what I think? I think we need a girl’s night. Let’s stop this grieving. We really need some fun.”

“Sounds good to me”, Caroline affirmed.

“Sure, why not”, Bonnie said and the three of them headed straight to the grill.

There was a party going on and a band playing on the stage which Caroline had helped Matt and Tyler set up the day before yesterday.

Tyler.

“I really need a drink”, Caroline declared and sat down on one of the bar stools in front of the bar. “Please give me some vodka”, she begged Matt.

“Sure.”

“Are you okay? I mean, he was your friend, too.”

“Right now, I just want to finish my shift. I’ve been working all day.”

“You didn’t really answer my question”, she insisted.

“Trust me, Car. If I had one of those handy humanity switches, I’d turn it off at moments like this. But right now, I just have to work.”

Caroline turned around. What she saw made her grin and her mood got a little better immediately.

Elena was standing on a table with Bonnie, dancing, singing and having what they all needed so much – fun.

“You’re lucky you guys are my friends”, Matt smiled. “I would throw anybody else out for this.”

Caroline grinned back, emptied her glass in one gulp and jumped on the table to them. “I don’t think I’m drunk enough for this”, she chuckled.

The people around them apparently enjoyed their little dance number, they cheered and clapped.  When they were too exhausted to even stand, they sat down next to the bar.

“Nice show”, a guy with dark hair commented.

“Thanks.” The girls grinned. Slowly, the thought about Tyler seemed to be sneaking in again.

Matt had left while they had danced and a man with brown hair had started to serve drinks. A man Caroline didn’t know.

“Hey?”, she shouted. “A double vodka, please.”

“I’m going to need your ID first.”

Caroline looked him deeply in the eyes. “Are you sure? Because I don’t think you do.”

“Oh, you’re right.” Every now and then, Caroline really enjoyed being a vampire.

“May I have this one on the house, please?”

“Yeah, sure.”

She took a sip with a satisfied smile.

“Thank you guys”, she grinned. “I kind of needed that today.” She smiled.

“Are you leaving?”, Elena asked.

“Yeah, I should probably get some rest. I barely slept last night.”

“Sure”, Bonnie smiled. “Good night!”

“Good night.”
