Chapter 5

Every now and then, Klaus looked at his beautiful company on his right. She was looking out the car window and hadn't really talked to him a lot.

"Why did you decide to come with he?" he finally asked.

"I didn't do it for you." She paused. "But I guess you were right. About this distraction thing."

He didn't answer, he just smirked. He knew what she told him was not the truth. She had a thing for him, and he knew it. She just didn't want to admit it because she was scared of herself, her bad side. And maybe a little bit of him.

He was just going to have to make her trust him.

"Why are you grinning?"

"No reason."

"Tell me," she insisted.

"Because you're lying straight to my face, and you know it."

"I'm not!"

"Yes, you are. Do you want me to compel it out of you?" He smirked.

"Don't you dare think for a second that you're the reason I'm joining you on your little trip."

He was glad she had reconsidered going with him. He wanted to show her the world. Take her to Chicago, New Orleans, New York, Tokyo and maybe Europe. Different cultures, people, traditions and languages. Maybe he could teach her?

"Where are we even going?" Caroline wanted to know.

"Wherever you want, Love."

"Where are you driving right now?"

"Chicago," he smiled.

Oh yeah, he really did love Chicago.

"Didn't you meet Stefan there decades ago?"

"Exactly. Chicago was unforgettable."

"Is there a country you haven't been to?"

"No."

"Forgive me if this doesn't impress me that much since you're the oldest vampire in the history of time."

"It's never too late if you have an eternity," he smiled and glanced at her. "That's the good thing about being immortal. Our time's not limited."

Caroline's phone rang. She picked up. "Hello?"

Klaus just couldn't help but eavesdrop. It was Elena.

"Caroline, where are you?" she asked.

"I'm..." Caroline looked at Klaus, not knowing what to tell her.

Let's have some fun, shall we?

He grabbed her phone and placed it in front of him. Caroline glanced at him angrily, but he didn't intend on giving it back.

"Hello, Elena. You're on speaker", he spoke enthusiastically.

"Klaus?"

"The one and only," he confirmed proudly with a wide smile.

"What do you want from her? Caroline, are you okay? Did he compel you?"

"I didn't compel her", he said. "She's coming with me voluntarily."

"I don't believe you."

"It's the truth, Elena", Caroline muttered. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you. And yes, I'm okay."

"I knew she was up to something", Damon commented in the background.

"What does he want with you? Are you and Klaus...?"

"Oh heck, no. There's no Klaus and me. He just offered me to travel the world with him. And now, after everything that has happened, I agreed," she interrupted.

"She's lying," Klaus said.

"I'm not!" Caroline retorted.

"I don't want to say I told you so but just remember that I did." Damon piped.

"Shut up, Damon." Stefan's voice.

"Bite me."

"Can I talk to Stefan for a second?" Caroline asked.

"Sure."

"Caroline?"

"Stefan, I am so sorry. I know I should've told you or at least I should've called. I'm really really sorry."

"It's fine, Caroline. If you think this is the right thing to do, it probably is. Just be careful. It's Klaus, keep that in mind."

"I will. Thanks." She smiled.

"I'm listening", Klaus yelled.

"Nobody cares," Caroline mumbled.

"Oh Stefan, there's something else. When I was in the woods before, I was attacked by two vampires. Klaus killed them, but I'm not sure if there are others. Be careful."

"Looks like tomorrow's going to be a busy day. We've got to kill some vampires", Damon shouted.

"We'll make sure there aren't any vampires here", Stefan promised.

"Okay. And if there's anything, just call me and I'll be right back in Mystic Falls."

"I'll fill you in on everything. Look, I need to go now. Just be careful."

"I will. Bye."

Klaus let her take her phone and she hung up.

"We're almost there," he smiled.
