The next day, Caroline slowly opened her eyes.

Where was she?

She looked around and scanned the unfamiliar room for details she might remember, but she came to the conclusion that she had never seen this place before.

She doubted that somebody who wanted to harm her would let her sleep in a room as beautiful as this, but she still kind of wanted to know how she had gotten here.

She got out of bed and carefully opened one of the two wooden doors. She found herself in a bright bathroom with a huge eye-catching bathtub in the middle of it.

Not having time to be pleased about the pretty bathroom, she turned round on her heel and went back to the bedroom, opening the other door, which led her to a large room that seemed to be a mixture of a living-dining room and the kitchen.

She swung around as she heard a noise.

“Good morning, sleepy head.”

She looked in Klaus’s smirking face. “How did I…?” She pointed to the bedroom.

“I brought you. You were so dead asleep I thought I’d rather not wake you.”

She frowned.

“So where did you sleep?”

Please don’t tell me I shared a bed with this guy.

He gave her a smirk.

“Oh no, you didn’t…”

“Of course I did. Where else did you want me to sleep? Unfortunately, I couldn’t ask you yesterday night because you were so tired you literally fell asleep in my arms.”

She grunted.

Don’t let him get to you. He doesn’t deserve it.

Rolling her eyes, she turned around and sat down on the white couch in the middle of the room, crossing her legs.

“So what are we doing today?”

“Whatever you want, love.”

“Could you possibly stop calling me love all the time? It does get a little annoying.”

“I don’t know, gorgeous. Can I?”

She shot him an angry glance over her shoulder. “I’m going to have to come up with a silly nickname for you,” she snorted.

“Those aren’t silly nicknames,” he emphasized.

This was so leading to a useless discussion.

She changed the subject. “Anyway. I don’t know what you are doing today, but I’m getting myself something to wear. I’m not planning on staying in this shirt all week.”

“Fine.” He smirked.

She raised an eyebrow. “I didn’t say I wanted you to join me.”

“Well, maybe you didn’t, but I know you want me to.”

She got up from the couch and took a step closer to him, scrutinizing him from top to bottom. “What game are you playing?”

“I’m not playing any games,” he replied laughing. “I just want to spend time with you. That’s all. No more, no less,” he whispered and removed the remaining space between the two of them as he took a step closer.  Caroline’s gaze shot up to his clear blue eyes.  Her breath quickened immediately and so did her heartbeat.

She just stood there and stared at him before shaking her head and turning away.

This was getting too damn awkward.

“Okay, fine. You can come with me.” She turned back to him and pointed at him with her forefinger. “But no stupid nicknames and no silly comments.”

Gosh. How long did she take?

Klaus put the booklet down which he had taken from the entrance of the clothing store. He was sitting on a light green armchair not far from the changing room. They had spent a few hours looking for some clothes that Caroline liked and apparently, it was taking her even longer to put them on.

Not only was he getting a little impatient, he also found the chair really uncomfortable.

Finally, Caroline stepped out of the changing room. She walked to the large mirror next to him and span around a few times.

“I’m not sure,” she mumbled, looking at her reflection.

“I like it,” Klaus commented.

“Are you saying this because you mean it or because you want to leave?”

“I honestly do like it,” he said truthfully.

She was wearing a grey top, a black cropped cardigan and light blue jeans. The black boots also really suited her.

She looked back at him over her shoulder.

Wow, this was the first smile she had given him today.

“And what about that dress?” he remembered.

“One second.”

She disappeared in the changing room and he expected her to take a lot longer than just a second, but he still tried to stay as patient as possible.

For her sake.

With a deep sigh, he took the booklet he had browsed before and prepared for hours of waiting. He turned the page several times before he found something absolutely perfect: a cream-colored dress, knee-length and he could bet that Caroline would adore it. He pictured her wearing it and decided he was going to have to get it for her.

“I’ll be back in a minute,” Klaus said, knowing Caroline had heard him with her super-hearing, and headed towards a shop assistant.

Hoping Caroline wasn’t trying to listen in, he pointed at the picture of the dress and told the shop assistant the size he needed.

The dress looked even more beautiful as he held it in his hands and hurried to pay for it.

“Could you wrap it up, please?” he asked the dark-haired woman behind the counter.

“Sure,” she replied.

A minute later, Klaus took the bag outside and put it in the trunk.

He couldn’t wait to see her face.
