As soon as Caroline had managed to almost calm herself, she remembered the other reason she had come to Klaus.
Hunger.
She wiped the last tear from her face and headed towards the balcony.
Klaus had left her completely speechless and touched by his words before. He had said he was going to draw and then he had disappeared.
She opened the balcony door and stepped outside. Leaning against the door frame, she watched Klaus from behind. She knew he had already heard her, so she didn't say anything and waited for him to talk to her.
"Hello, Caroline,” he mumbled, his gaze focused on his drawing.
"I don't want to bother you, but I'm hungry and I was just wondering if you brought any blood bags."
He turned around to face her. "No. You know I prefer the fresh stuff," he smirked and his gaze shifted back to his sheet of paper.
"So... what are you suggesting me to do? "
Letting go of a sigh, he laid his pencil down and got up.
"I guess we're going to have to go for a hunt."

"Snatch, eat and erase. Remember.”
Caroline gave Klaus a warning look as they were walking through Chicago's streets twenty minutes later.
"You really have to loosen up,” he mumbled and smirked.
"And you have to consider that I've seen you kill people a few times," she replied and tried to sound as little reproachful as possible. Even if his behavior was driving her crazy, she was still touched by his words before. He had been so kind and honest with her, she hadn't even known he was capable of doing something like this.
Well, at least she hoped he had been honest with her.
If he hadn't, he was as good as dead.
Okay, fine, he was already dead, but she was sure she could make him feel even a little deader.
"I'm nothing compared to you. You killed 12 witches at once! I'm a small innocent mouse compared to you," he said with a grin.
Caroline rolled her eyes at his comment. "Yes, I did. But unintentionally!"
"How can you kill so many big bad witches unintentionally? You're even scarier than I thought!" he laughed.
"Hey," she yelled and hit him playfully on the shoulder.  "I wanted to kill one of them. It wasn't my fault they were linked!"
He lifted his hands defensively.
"Okay, fine," he laughed. "I get it."
With a satisfied grin on her face, she changed the subject.  "Where are we even heading?  What's this great plan of yours that you were talking about?"
"One of my favorite ways of hunting. Wait and see," he replied and stopped walking.
Suddenly, he had disappeared.
She looked around to see where he had gone and spotted him on top of a not so high building.
"Scared humans are more fun to play with," he whispered. Caroline kept a wary eye on him as he walked a few steps towards the edge of the housetop and jerked when he jumped.  She needed a second to remember nothing was going to happen to him since he was a vampire and watched him put on his little stunt show.
An instant later, Klaus was lying on the sidewalk a few dozen meters away.
Only a few seconds passed until an alarmed man in his mid-thirties came running towards him.
 "Oh my God!”
He took in a deep breath of air before he screamed: "Help! Somebody help!"
Klaus got up from the floor and looked at the man in fake confusion.  "What's wrong, dear?" he asked.
The man's eyes widened. "But you… you just fell off the rooftop!"
"Are you sure?" Klaus pulled one eyebrow up. After he had let the poor man suffer for long enough, he showed him his vampire teeth and bit him in the neck.
Snatch, eat and erase.  Snatch, eat and erase.  He won't kill him.
Finally, Klaus wiped the blood from his mouth and looked the man deeply in the eyes.
"You were just going to work when all out of a sudden a tiger jumped out of a trash barrel and attacked you. Go home now."
Patting the man on his back, he sent the him away and Caroline came out of her hiding place, amusedly shaking her head.
"Seriously? A tiger? In the middle of Chicago?  Poor man. Nobody's going to believe him!"
"I know," Klaus chuckled. "Come on. Try my method. "
"That's not my style. I like to get my blood more easily.  Grab someone, feed, erase and send them away. It’s as simple as that."
"You know you want to have some fun," he smirked.
Yup, actually she did want to do something crazy from time to time. That's why she jumped to the rooftop of the same building a second later.
"But I'm going to do it my way," she muttered, knowing he could hear her. "Actually, I only want to jump off this damn rooftop." She chuckled.
Klaus leaned against a wall and from the corner of her eyes she could see he was watching her.
She turned around until she spotted someone coming in her direction.
She hesitated when she looked down at the ground, which seemed to be so far away. But then, she pulled herself together and jumped. Hoping Klaus hadn't seen her hesitation, she landed safely in front of a man. He was actually kind of good-looking. Dark hair, piercing blue eyes and around her age.
His eyes widened when she got up from the floor without being hurt.
"Did you just...how did you... "
"Did I do what?"
"Oh my God, "he said and one second later, he pulled a gun from his jacket and pointed it to her chest. Before Caroline could react, the guy had already pulled the trigger. He missed her heart but shot her in the stomach instead.
The sudden pain made Caroline collapse to her knees.
A bullet wasn't supposed to hurt that much.
Her skin around the bullet felt like it was on fire. She grabbed the bullet with her fingers and pulled it out.
Wooden.
Vervain.
He knew.
Before she managed to get to him, the man shot her in the leg and he was now aiming for her heart.
If she could move right now, she would definitely kill this bastard.
Unfortunately, it was just the other way around right now.
His finger was already placed on the trigger when Klaus appeared behind him and snapped his neck. The man lifelessly collapsed to the ground.
Caroline stared at Klaus in shock, the bullet in her leg burning like fire, but she couldn't reach it. He frowned, sat down next to her and pulled the bullet out.
"He knew," he remarked, furrowing his brow.
"Duh."
