The wind was blowing through my raven colored hair. I was surrounded by blue and the distinguished smell of salt water. The sun was beating down on my black jeans and red tank top. The loud buzz of the jet boat's motor over-ruled the telling my family considered a 'conversation'. I felt at peace, and I hated it. If I felt at peace anywhere other than when I was flying in the sky, I despised myself and my surroundings. Yes, I can fly. No, I'm not a superhero. I'm what's called a Legion.
If you don't know what that is, well I'll tell you. Legions were once fallen angels. They did something that someone in a higher place didn't like so they were banished. They weren't all bad though, so they devoted their lives to helping humans. They eventually had to carry on their legacy, so they mixed with humans. That's how Legion's came to be. We protect the humans. We have wings and gifts. When we turn thirteen we get our wings, but they just don't appear. Well not without a lot of pain. I'm talking like a million needles continuously poking your back. Then, depending on your pain tolerance level, a week or two of drifting in and out of sleep.
The gifts come at each birthday, but there is only three. One at age fourteen, then at age fifteen, and the last one at age sixteen. It doesn't stop there though, there are also elements. We each get one element when we turn seventeen. After that we are a full-fledged Legion.
I'm turning sixteen in two weeks. So my family and another family of Legions, decided it was time to move. So move is what we are doing. We are moving to an island, in the middle of effing nowhere. Not fun. Well not for me anyways, everyone else is really excited.
"Raven dear, I know you didn't want to move here but I promise you'll like it!" My mother screamed at me from across the boat.
I just fake smiled in return. I haven't spoken to either of my parents since they announced the move. Plus I can't yell back, if I do I'll break everyone’s ear drums. My second gift is sonic scream, as my brothers call it. I call it bleeding ears. Have you ever seen or read anything from DC comics? Well if you have, refer to Black Canary. We have the same ability. My first gift is super strength. Kind of like Superman. Sorry for the super hero references but that's all I could think of on how to describe it. It's actually how my youngest brother explains it to other people.
"Hey bird, you excited?" My eldest brother Sky wrapped his arm around my shoulders. He's 22 and has no life. Literally, he spends his days in a gym just so he could even try to beat me, still doesn't work.
I glared at him with fiery eyes. He retracted his arm and held his hands up in surrender as he tried to scoot away from me. It didn't work out too well considering there was 8 of us on this boat. My mom, my dad, my five brothers and I. Yes, I have five brothers. It's not bad considering they are all afraid of me.
The boat started to slow down and I looked out ahead of us to see my new life. A small town surrounded by tree's at the bottom of a hill. How nice, we are surrounded by nature! I love nature! Note the extreme use of sarcasm.
"We're here!" My mom squealed with excitement. She jumped up when the boat stopped at the dock with a huge grin on her face.
My dad helped her out of the boat first then held his hand out for me to take. I know he was thinking 'Ladies first'. I pushed it away and jumped out myself. He mumbled something along the lines of an 'Okay then' then helped my brothers out. Charles, my 18 year old brother, handed me my black shoulder bag. It has two red wings on the front; I bought it because I found it appropriate.
I only have a few items in this bag because all of our stuff is already at our house. I wonder which house it is...
I let my gaze fall onto the small town once again. Not many houses, a few restaurants, a gas station, and thankfully; a TIM HORTONS!!! The hill at the back of the town wasn't small but it wasn't like a mountain. On top of the hill were two towering mansions. The one on the right was black and looked like it had been there longer than the town itself. The one on the left was white and looked brand new. They shared the same back yard. Oh god, I hope neither of those is ours.
