My brothers flew in three different directions, so I took the fourth. Towards the mainland. They probably did that on purpose. I flew as fast as I could, mom has speedy flying as one of her powers so she could be anywhere depending on how long she's been gone already. She could be on the other side of the planet if she's been gone all day.
When I reached the mainland, I set out on to all the places I could think of. All of our old houses, our old schools, our favourite restaurants, parks she brought us to when we were little. She wasn't at any of them, and now it was getting dark.
Since I was closer to stuff on the mainland rather than the island, I decided to head to the cottage instead of going home. I was too tired and I needed to be able to find her so I need to be awake and alert.
The cottage was only accessible by flying in. There wasn't a road and it was in the middle of the forest. Lot's of animals like to try to break in but its meant to withstand an attack. My dad and Jeremy's dad made it that way. Just in case. It was a safe house.
After flying in, I had to push many bushes and trees out of the way to get to the front door. Then, I had to break the box around the hand scanner. You should unlock it with a key but I didn't bring my key with me, so I had to break it. I scanned my hand on the pad and the door unlocked. Inside was cool and damp. There was probably some canned food in the pantry so I went looking for it first.
After downing many cans of beans and peaches, I went looking for a shirt. The last time I stayed here I was probably six, so none of my things would fit me now. Not even 12-year-old Sky's shirts would fit. So I went to my parent's room and found one of my mom's shirts. It was a regular t-shirt, bright pink and definitely not my colour but it was the only one with holes for wings already cut into it.
So I set it aside, pulled off my pants, and settled into my parent's bed. I didn't feel like sleeping in my old bunk bed either. And even with all the terrible events that happened that day, I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
I slept like a rock, don't think I even moved until I felt a presence above my head. I knew someone was there and I woke up as soon as I realized it.
My eyes snapped open and my hand went up and somehow found the person's neck. The tingles started before I registered who was in front of me and I didn't squeeze.
Jay grinned, "nice to see you too."
My hand retracted and I blinked. "How did you get in here?"
Jeremy stepped into the room, "you should put some clothes on."
I frowned at him and Jay grinned even more. I then grabbed the blanket of the bed and a puff of dust came off with it. I wrapped it around my body and Jay laughed. Jeremy glared at him, "hands to yourself buddy."
I rolled my eyes, "go away, Jeremy."
Jeremy frowned at me but left the room. I turned to Jay when he was gone, "what are you two doing here?"
Jay shrugged, "I told Jeremy I wanted to help search for your mom and he carried me all the way here."
I frowned, that was kind of sweet. "There's not a lot of food or beds here though," I told him.
He shrugged, "well then you better get dressed and come have some of the breakfast we brought."
That made me smile and I practically leapt towards Jay to pull him into a hug. "Thank you," I said and he hugged me back tightly as if he was afraid of me letting go. I was afraid too, afraid that I'd never find my mom again and lose everyone in the process. I had just gained my family back and even gained Jay somewhat along the way and this was all unravelling too fast.
