"Language Raven!" My mom smacked my arm. It was almost like she hadn't abandoned us and we were still at home, having a normal day.

I frowned at her, "don't even try to mother me right now."

That made her frown and the figure lurking behind me growled every-so-slightly. I wasn't going to have any of this attitude from her today. I had already dealt with two boys being idiots, my own mother wasn't going to give me this attitude too.

I turned around to the rogue wolf and I glared at him. He was less scary now that he looked like a normal person. Showered, hair cut, new clothes. "This is between family members," I glared at him and he growled back. "Get out now."

I knew we were in a room, but I had no idea where or what kind of room.

The rogue looked at my mom and then turned around and went for the exit. I noticed then that this was a hotel room and he exited into the hallway. When the door finally closed, I turned back to my mother. She was frowning and I was furious.

"Explain yourself."

She watched me for a long moment, debating with herself in her head. I could see it on her face. She was deciding what information was important enough to tell me and what things she could omit. I didn't want her to leave out any information.

"I spoke to your father before I left," she admitted as the first thing.

"And," I gestured for her to continue, "what exactly did you tell him."

She sighed, in that motherly way that said her children were growing up and she didn't like it. "I told him the truth," she was speaking quietly now. Like she had said this too many times out loud and every time she did, it hurt her even more. "Us Legions live for a long time, so do werewolves. We all find a mate somehow. I knew who mine was from the start but I was told that Legions needed to stick together from the start. My mom told me we couldn't taint our bloodline by marrying a human or a werewolf. She made that very clear to me until the day she died."

"When I turned 13 and got my wings, she would make me tell her every day that I was going to find another Legion and we would have many children together."

My mom didn't like to talk about grandma very much. She wasn't a nice person overall and thought that Legion's were meant to be Gods, that we should rule over humans rather than protect them. She also apparently thought werewolves were bad overall, and that's how we were all taught that werewolves were the enemy.

"She didn't understand soul mates, or as werewolves call them, mates." She sighed again, "Raven you will only find love and happiness with your mate, and if that's Jay and even if he's a werewolf, you should be with him. I know you'll be happy, you just have to give in to fate."

I frowned at her, "Is that what you did? Gave in to true love and abandoned the family you have for this man?"

She looked down at the ground, "we're not abandoning you."

I clenched my teeth together, "oh so it's we now?"

"Raven!" she raised her voice ever so slightly, "your father has a mate too! And we were trying to find her."

I took a step back and clenched my fists at my side. What was all this true love and soul mate stuff doing? We were supposed to be fighting real things and saving people, right? Not just trying to find people we're supposed to fall in love with!

"So what do you plan on doing after that?" I angrily gestured around. "Move them in with the family? Be around only for special events? You know your youngest son only wants one thing in the world and that's for you to be at his birthday party when he gets his wings."
