Chapter 2
Running Away
Lema was standing in front of her window, letting thoughts entered her mind. How she wish she could still see the same star she and her sister used to look at every night before they went to bed. The same star they named, the same star they put wishes onto.
“Sister” she said in a low voice.
Unknowingly, Lema heard a voice came from behind, “Why do you always want your sister to be with you again? You are always saying sister! It really pisses me off, Lema!”
Lema was startled and not so sure who has entered her room, “Cristian?”
Cristian was leaning in the wall with her arms folded. His eyes looking straight into hers: eyes full of wants, eyes with lust. Lema heard footsteps nearby, “I’m here the whole time since we were child but you never appreciated me. I’m not that dumb Lema. I knew you were only talking to me because your mother asked you to.”
“Yeah”
“Lema, be with me.” He pleaded.
“Right”
“Lema, I love you” He confessed.
Questions filled her mind. She felt Cristian’s head reaching her neck, his hair covered his face and then he let out an evil laugh, “So, I’m here to take what is meant for me: to take you, all of you."
“What do you mean?” Lema backed off when she heard the click in the lock of the door. Cristian locked the door.
Lema was shaking in worry, her hands were wet and sweat covered her face, “Why are you locking the door, C-Cristian”
Cristian grab Lema’s hands and pushed her to the wall. She tried to push him but her strength is no compared to Cristian.
“Cri-Cristian! Get off me!” Lema screamed and tried to get herself out of his grip.
He leaned forward and kissed her, though Lema did not response. It wasn’t a passionate kiss. His arm tightened around her waist pulling her closer to him. His other hand was moving up, carelessly touching her. Lema moaned. Cristian cut the kiss and gave her a grin.
“Please, Pl-ee”
Cristian’s hand moved down reaching her. Lema let out a moan. Cristian laughs evilly.
“Your body is responding to me.” He looked at her eyes and added, “You poor, having your eyes shut made me more sad. You should see your face.”
Not another word she kicked his thing and pulled her hand away and her face, he looked at her like she’d just hit him.
“Stop! Please!" was all Lema could say. What was he going to do to me? Lema thought in her mind.
"Now, you did it." He said. He pushed her in the floor. She tried to breakthrough, she pushed him in the face, she punched him in the chest but all of these have no effect on him. She shouted for help, her voice came from the bottom of her lungs.
"Keep quiet or else..." he warned
"Lema?"
"Mo-mother! Help!"
"Shhhh!" Cristian stood up and as he does, Lema’s mom came inside. Lema left lying in the floor. Cristian was startled and shocked. Lema wanted to run to her and hug her and tell everything but her body wasn’t able to even move an inch.
"Lema?" she asked again and then looked at Cristian.
"She tripped Tita. I'm just about to help her.” Cristian lied.
How Lema wished to slap him in the face and kick her out of her room. She hated him, just that moment she hated him very much. She never thought he would turn into a demon only for love. He knows how to lie now, calmly. That hurt Lema more. Cristian have been her best friend since forever. He knew that she doesn't like him, but he still accepted her parents favour. Is it a favour? I don't think so. Favour is not the right word, for Cristian desired her so much. It is not forced but 'planned'.
"Oh, is that so." Lema’s mother walked towards them.
Cristian offered his hand to Lema but she ignored it and said, "No, I can get up."
"Okay, I' m going to bed Lema." he leaned forward to her and whispered "We will continue tomorrow. Wait for me." Cristian looked back with a grin in his face.
Even though Lema cannot see his eyes looking straight at her, even though she cannot take a glimpse of the person who was dividing her into pieces, her heart was racing; she was having the fastest beat she ever had. She was not in love with him but rather afraid, afraid of him doing the same thing that he did to her seconds ago or even worse. She stayed still in her position. Not daring to move an inch.
"Honey is you alright?" Lema's mother asked her, and put her hands on her shoulder which made Lema came back to her consciousness.
“Y-yes?”
Her mother came near her, and hugged her tightly, "Listen, Lema that boy named Cristian was your best friend. He is rich, have the money to take you to the doctor and heal your eyes. He can give you everything, everything you ever wanted, ever wanted." She stressed the words in Lema’s ears which made Lema froze in horror.
"Now, for tomorrow do what he says and you'll have a happy life, period. That's it. No ‘no’s and ‘but’s." she added in whisper.
"DO WHAT HE SAYS"
Words bounced back and forward, from her ears. Thoughts ran down to her mind, and tears began to form.
"All this time, mom. All this time!" She screamed angry.
"Lema, calm down."
Lema stood up letting all her tears ran down to her rosy cheeks.
"What do you think of me? A toy?! A-a toy that you can give anytime to anyone?!” , bitter tears streaming in her face.
"Huh! Tell me! Tell me! What AM I to you?!" She continued to scream.
Her mother look at her, even stared for a while. "Honey, you don't understand any of this. You need to be taken care of, to-" Lema cut her off.
Lema cut her off, "To what? To be feed? To be sold? To be what?! Mom, tell me!" She screamed, the rage on her voice and body burning. She stood up and holds Lema’s shoulder, "Honey, c-"
Not letting her mother explain she again cut her, “Don't touch me! And don't call me that."
Tears rolled down in her cheeks, her eyes and nose were swollen and red. Her mother’s guilty eyes looked away, not wanted to look at her crying daughter’s blinded eyes. They stood up from there with silence. Many words are needed to be spoken but none of them were out. Heartaches and questions that were needed to be answered remained. Those blue and shiny eyes tried to hide the tears forming in her eyes. Those innocent and blinded eyes Lema has, and even those tears coming from it cannot change the decision her mother has made. Lema knew this, once her mother made a decision it could never be changed but she believed in things that could never possibly happen.
Lema screamed for the last time, “Mom!”
“No, get yourself together and go to sleep.” From those heart breaking last words of her mother, her mother went out of the room.
Bitter words made her more confident on one thing she knew her mother would never wanted her to do.
Never.
