Chapter3
A Letter
Lema sat in defeat, and stared at the floor thinking what could happen to her with that man. She wanted to throw pillows, like she had always done when she was a little girl. She wanted to scream like that on movies she heard on nights. She wanted to do silly things, she wanted to escape.
If only.
If only she could be like those girls in the books she has heard. She can leave and would end up with a prince and would be married to him and it would be a happy ever after story.
She let out a heavy sigh and laid her body on the bed. “I'm going to miss all of this" From that, she closed her blind eyes and gave herself a little rest
A slow knock came before the door was opened. Lema's eyes broke open, though still with the faith and hope she has in having her eyes back she saw nothing. She can sense the person that she has a quarrel last night, her mother. She closed the door and step forward near where Lema was.
"I have something for you." She handed a piece of paper to Lema.
"What's this?" Lema asked.
"Something from your sister Corazon."
"Yeah.” Lema got up and removed the dirt on her face she got after sleeping. She heard her mother walked out and closed the door heavily.
"She still remembers me, at least she does." Lema whispered.
The letter contained:
Dear my dearest sister,

Love,
Corazon
Lema got her Braille and put her fingers on it to read the letter she received. Letters were in her hands giving words of love and hope to Lema’s unfigured life.
Lema froze after reading the given letter. She cannot believe what she has just read. Her sister always comforted her and always on her side but this was beyond what she has expected.
"How could she say that?”
Her mind floated as she thought on the possible reasons why her sister would say those words. Maybe she was becoming crazy because she lived in a cruel life with that man. Maybe she was just joking. Or maybe, maybe she was serious about it. She cannot even breathe on what she has read. She's blind but she knew what her sister meant when she wrote: Go for it!
Lema sat in confusion. Questions and thoughts ran together in her mind. She digs in her thoughts as she asked herself for answers. She thought people would hate her for what she would do, but here was her sister's letter for her, an encouragement letter that gave her more confidence on doing it.
Lema stood up and hurried up on packing her things. Though it's hard for her and she knew what possible things could happen out there, she would definitely never change her mind.
She opened her closet’s door and threw every clothes in there in her bag as fast as she can: Pants, dresses, shorts, underwear, everything. She wore chocolate pants and white and green striped shirt under a sweater with hood.
She was closing the zipper of her school bag when the door was suddenly opened. Cristian was standing there. Lema threw her bag under her bed, shocked and scared. Cristian looked at her, more than stared. The place was silent and cold, very cold just like last nights.
"W-what?!" Lema shouted with a husky voice.
"Nothing, don't do things that are silly.” He closed the door; no it was shutting the door.
Lema lowered her head; her hand on her hair. Questions bothered her mind, as she decided on what to do tonight. Confused, Lema decided that she should go and ran for her freedom.

The darkness surrounded all the things that were inside of that room where Lema used to sleep and cry. Lema was covered with her usual blanket in her bed. The curtains who danced with the air were making noises; the open window letting in the cold air inside Lema's room. She waited till everyone was asleep and assured things will go on her plans. Moonlight was coming inside her room.
Minutes passed and all you can hear is the tickling of the clock. All were asleep, deep sleep. Lema stood up slowly, not making any cracking sound in her movements. She slid down in her bed, and tip toed. Tip toed, and then accidentally made a crack sound! A cracking sound that is not loud and not so soft,
And stop.
"Oops" she whispered lowly. Only her nose could hear those words that she has just said. Then, once again she moved, tip toed slowly and more carefully. She touched things to know where she was, the darkness around her made her felt more lost than she always felt on not seeing anything.
The fine and soft cover of her table indicated her that she was beside of her bed. She ducked in her bedroom to get her bag and moved slowly and possible flawless. She was reaching the bag under the bed but it was not in her reach. She extended more of her hand, more and more. Her muscles stretch their limit but it is still not reached until her own head was stocked under her bed.
"Shhh!" she exclaimed.
Lema tried to get her head out, pulling her head out of it was not easy as she thought. It took her times to get that damn head out of that bed.
"Darn!"
She can't lose now. She lost her sight, now she cannot afford losing her freedom just because of her head. Lema tried, and tried. ; Sounds coming out from the bumps that she made on hitting her head. It is so loud that everyone on the house could be awakened because of the noises she is making, footsteps were heard; Big and loud footsteps which was coming nearer and nearer in Lema's room.
Closer, dug, closer, closer, dug, closer, dug, tap, dug, tap. The noise continued to became louder and to come nearer though Lema was busy pulling her head out under her bed.
The noise was so loud that Lema only notices it when it was so near in her room.
"Damn it!”
She tried and tried to get out; tried to pull her head out of that bed. She tried to push the bed and get her head out. She kissed the floor just to duck at possible lowest position to get her head out but still no move.
"This head?!"
The footsteps grew lauder as it drew nearer to Lema's door. Lema always wanted freedom, always wanted it. She planned for this and this would just turn into ashes?
No way, she thought but what if it was true that only fairy tales come true?
