Sultana grasped for thoughts, for things to do, So when Sultan came she was unsure whether to let him in, he knocked and knocked until she finally opened the door. For two days she hadn't seen him, no text no calls. She opened the door not meeting his gaze. She folded her arms on her chest waiting for him to speak.
"Hubb, please I am sorry for acting out like that, I let my emotions get the best of me, I just couldn't imagine my mom would do such a thing."
"So you think I lied to you?"
"No Sultana, please don't, say anything."
The tumultuous crowding of pain, thoughts and anger, that shot through her made the words flow out of her mouth with accurate precision. "I am not going to remain silent again, I have had enough your mom did this to me, she did this to us, and you expect me not to keep quiet? I respect you a lot that is why I didn't say anything to anyone, I don't want anyone to tarnish your mother's reputation and here you are putting the blame on me, I could have died Sultan, you always promised you would take care of things, but you are so indecisive to take any action, congrats now your child is gone, my baby is gone."
"Sultana!" Sultan said hotly, trying to control his raging heart. "Please stop uttering such words for the sake of God. I can't wrap my head on why my mother wants to kill you."
"Well wrap your head around it, cause she did not almost kill me, she killed ny child, and I don't think I will ever forgive her." She stormed out of the room. He stood for long moments in utter astonishment. He needed to clear his head, this was too much to grasp. He was driving, but he didn't know where, until he reached a lake in Jabi. He sat on one of the seats outside, facing the lake. He stared at nothingness, how could Sultana accuse his mom of something as cruel as that, but again he delved in his thoughts, Sultana won't lie about something like this, and yes his mother never liked her.
What kind of dilemma was this, he had to believe either his mom or Sultana, his thoughts were clouded. He was confused, yes his mom did not know Sultana was pregnant.
He planned to tell her that morning, if only he wasn't called urgently to the office. He felt a tap on his shoulder he turned around gently.
"Manal, what are you doing here?"
"I should ask that question, what are you doing here all by yourself without your lovely wifey?"
"Nothing, I just came here to clear my head." This was the fourth time they were civil with each other, suprisingly. "Is there anything bothering you Sultan, you look troubled." He sighed deeply. "I guess you did not hear what happened to Sultana."
"What happened to her?"
"She fell from the stairs." He said sadly.
"So is that why you came here to cry alone." His eyes were brimmed up with tears as he tried expressing his deepest thoughts. "Sultan, are you crying? did something happen to her?"
"Yeah, she has a broken rib," "Gosh, so sorry about that." "And she lost the baby."
"Good heavens, she was pregnant?" "Yeah, she was three months pregnant."
"I am so sorry Sultan this has to hurt, please take heart, Allah doesn't burden a soul more than it can bear, be strong Allah is going to bless you with more children."
"Thanks, Manal I appreciate it." "Hold up, did she fall on her own or she was pushed?"
"I am not sure, why did you ask? "It is nothing just forget it." She stood up hurriedly to leave. Sultan could see how tense she was from her demeanour. He stood up too, searching her gaze."Please tell me what you know." He said holding her arms tightly.
"Sultan let me go you are hurting me." "I am sorry Manal." He quickly removed his hands from her arm. "I am sorry I am acting up like this, my emotions are getting the best of me." He sat down, and Manal sat beside him. After some minutes of eerie silence she spoke.
