Chorong
My eyes went to the kid who is staring at me with ice cream."What's your name?" I asked him with a smile. He carefully pointed at a corner, where a guy is watching us."Where is your mother?"
"He is following you." The kid said as he ate his ice cream, not bothered. I was shocked and looked back but the guy was gone."You should go home, noona."
I nodded,"How about I walk you home?" I asked him. He shook his head and walked back to a lady, must be his mother. I sighed as I looked back, again."Is that guy really following me?"
I didn't bother looking into it and entered the library to fetch some books to read. There were about five books that I brought to a table."This one is pretty interesting." I said as quiet as I could.
My time was mostly used on reading these books, it's already 3 in the afternoon. I saw a small shop selling candies and went in."Are you new here?" The vendor asked with a smile.
I nodded but didn't bother to talk. I grabbed a nice variety of them and hopefully I won't get toothache from these."I recommend watching the sunset, later." She said, giving me the bag of candies.
"I will." I said as I bowed at her before leaving.
I opened a lollipop and placed it in my mouth. As I let the candy melt in my mouth, I thought about staying to camp on the beach where I could see the sunset.
I run back to where my apartment is and opened the door. I walked towards my bed and stared at it."Should I take these?" I asked, grabbing my pillow and blanket.
Even I am surprised that I have a tent hiding in the closet, I opened my luggage and took my jacket out."Let's make a bonfire there!" I said to myself, excitedly.
Preparing took a little longer than I expected but there were still time to go to the beach and set up. I locked the door behind me and started walking.
Someone was staring at me or maybe it's just me being conscious. I walked to the stone stairs to go down where the sand is and run to a good spot."Let's build you." I mumbled.
I was having a hard time, taking the tent outside of it's bag but I finished it. I placed my backpack inside, the pillows and blankets as well. As I finished, I lie down and let out a deep breath.
"Why did I run away?" I asked, myself. I don't even consider this running away, it's probably a vacation by myself. The sunset was actually breathtaking and all I did was watch it.
My arms were hugging my legs to my chest as I leaned my chin between my knees."It's pretty quiet." I said as I realized my eyes are getting watery.
Next thing I know, I couldn't stop my tears from coming out anymore. I felt like a heavy thing finally left my chest as I cried, loudly. I picked the spot where only a bit of people would go.
It wasn't because of Mark, I thought to myself but why keep lying? He was the one who made me like this but did he? I never met his parents and anyone related to him, actually. My breath was shaky from crying."Should I call someone?" I asked to my phone.
No way is that a good idea, anyway. I sighed, wiping my tears away."The sunset is gone." I simply mumbled as my surrounding started to get darker.
I opened my flashlight for light and went inside the tent to lie down again. I closed the tent then searched for the books I have in my backpack.
It's been a week since the trip with my friends and Mark. I gasped as I realized what it is, today."Naeun's wedding." I said with a sad tone."I wasn't there to congratulate her."
I grabbed my phone and started dialing Naeun's number. She didn't picked up on the first try but she eventually picked up later."I am so sorry." I said without hesitation.
"You could've at least started it with a congratulations." She said on the other line, chuckling. I smiled as she started telling me stories about what happened and how she is happy."Why are you crying?"
I laughed at how she is right. Why am I crying? I nodded,"I am happy for you, that's all." I said, sobbing between my sentence. I heard her starting to cry as well on the other line."Don't cry."
"Did you talk to your parents?"
"I did, why wouldn't I?" I said then bit my lower lip as I hesitate on asking this question."Did you see Mark in your wedding? How was he doing?"
Naeun must've been surprised because she was silent but replied,"He showed up but we didn't talk. Nothing changed but I was sure he was better when you were here."
"I only disappeared for a week yet and it sounds like I was gone for years." I said, then smiled a bit."Was he with someone else?"
I expected it to be Hayoung or Hyunjin but when Naeun answered my question, I froze."He was with someone else." She said.
"You made it sound like he is with another girl." I laughed a bit but when I realized, we don't have any closure with our relationship. I don't have the right to question it.
"He was."
"Who is she?"
"His fiancee."
I couldn't even talk as I heard it. I didn't knew that he is currently arranged in a marriage. I don't know why I am sad about it."Good for him, then." I said.
"But I don't think they really get along."
I squeezed my eyes shut and sighed."You think that will comfort me, don't you?" I asked her, laughing.
"I try, even though I am generally bad at it." She replied which made me smile even more."It was nice talking to you but I have to go. Take care, Chorong."
I looked at my phone as she hanged up. I must be stupid because I suddenly wanted to buy beer and get drunk."Should I buy tteokbokki, too?" I asked myself as I left the tent.
