The metal pieces began pulling each other together in to two separate piles. Half the pincers went to one pile, half the jaws went to one pile...
Oh cr*p, two spiders
"Nico!" said Sam putting his hands on my shoulders.
I almost jumped out of my skin. I turned around to see Sam.
"We need to move!" he said pulling me deeper in to the tunnel.
Not five seconds passed before I heard the all too familiar sound of the insects scurrying across the ground.
My heart was thumping in my chest as we ran deeper and deeper in to the passage. The light was slowly becoming dimmer and dimmer. I could just barely make out the tunnel split in to two ahead. If I didn't know Sam was right ahead of me, I wouldn't have been able to see him.
Then I did something foolish.
I looked back for a moment to see how close the creatures were, and they were close. I could make out the glint of metal a few dozen metres behind us. I looked at Sam, that's when I realized I couldn't see him anymore.
How could I be so stupid? The passage split up just ahead and I couldn't see which tunnel Sam would go in to. I couldn't hear him clearly either.
I didn't have time to make a decision, I sprinted in to the right hand passage, hoping that I had chosen the one which Sam had ran in to.
I just ran and ran and ran, coming in to another intersection in the tunnel. Not thinking about it, I ran in to the left hand passage. Soon enough the tunnel split again, and again, and again, until there were three or four tunnels to choose from after every few paces.
I wasn't in a tunnel anymore, I was in a labyrinth.
Worse, I couldn't see a thing.
I was blind without the light to guide me. I only had my sense of touch to guide me. Putting my hand against a wall, I felt my way towards a possible exit.
I kept walking in to walls, possibly dead ends. Every time I did I turned around in another direction. I wondered where Sam was.
"Well at least things couldn't get any worse" I whispered to myself.
As if on cue, I heard the faint sound of metal slicing against the ground, getting louder and louder by the second.
"Oh no" I trembled. Those spiders were deadly enough, but now in the dark they were ten times deadlier.
Having no other choice I ran away from the sounds, but they were still as loud as before. That's when I realized..they were following me.
This was bad, bad, bad, bad.
Suddenly I heard a voice. It belonged to..Sam.
"Nico! Follow my voice, I'll lead you to the exit!" he shouted from somewhere near.
"Sam? Help me! I have two spiders machines on my tail and they are closing the gap!" I shouted back.
"Just run as fast as you can towards my voice!" he responded.
"Oh that's so helpful" I shouted running in to a side passage on the left.
Soon enough, I could see the light at the end of the tunnel, I could even see the vague figure of Sam waving at me. Seeing the end so near spurred me to go on even faster.
I was almost there, but in my happiness I had forgotten just how dangerously close the spiders were. By the time I did, it was too late.
The first spider landed straight on my back and knocked me to the ground. The second one tugged at my leg and began pulling me back in to the darkness.
"No!" I kicked and struggled, "You are not taking me!" "Sam, help!"
The spiders hissed at my cries for help. The second spider began pulling me backwards even more ferociously. The first one dug it's pincers in to my back.
"AAAHH!" I screamed. The pain was so much. My back stung so much, it was like I had a nest of fire ants stinging me all at once.
Tears flowed down my cheeks. I couldn't even scream anymore. I could only whimper in pain as the spider dug it's pincer in to my back and slowly dragged it down in a straight line,
Blood poured out of the massive cut in my back in small droplets. The droplets soon turned in to streams as the blood oozed out on the ground, creating a stream of blood. I couldn't fight anymore.
I could just let myself be taken and swallowed by the darkness.
"Sam, where are you?" I thought in utter despair.
"He's not coming back for you Nico" a voice in my mind answered.
"No...this can't be" I answered to the voice.
"It is Nico" the strange voice answered.
"What are you?" I screamed at the voice. "Get out of my mind!"
"We'll meet soon Nico" the voice answered mysteriously.
And then I blacked out.
