An hour and a half before the wedding, I found myself knocking on the front door of the groom-to-be's house. My brother opened the door and pulled me in quickly.
"Hey," I said, sitting down in a chair as he paced in front of me nervously. "You sounded really freaked on the phone. Is something wrong?"
James whirled around to face me. "Yeah!" He exclaimed. "I'm rethinking every decision I've ever made in my life!"
"Whoa, calm down. What exactly is the problem? You're not even remotely ready for your own wedding yet."
"Maybe I just... shouldn't go."
I stood up. "Whoa, Jamie! Why?"
"I don't know! I just got to thinking... This guy i'm marrying is a cheater! He's cheated on people before! How am I supposed to know he won't do it again!"
I squinted at him. "Maybe you shouldn't have- You know what." I sighed. "Nevermind. Is that your only problem? The last time was years ago, and he never cheated on you. Plus, you're technically a cheater too."
Jamie gasped. "Charlie, you don't mean that!"
"I do."
Jamie thought about it for a minute. "Oh."
"But that's not the point right now," I said quickly. "We need to get you ready for your wedding."
Jamie smiled. "Okay. thanks."
"When are your groomsmen coming?" I asked him.
"Oh!" Jamie looked sheepish. "They were here, but I sent them to the church ahead of me when I started freaking out."
"So they're not coming?" I asked.
"No."
"Okay." I looked at my brother, trying to figure out what to do next. "So all you have to do is get dressed, right?"
"Basically. But I have to get my car from my buddy's house." He told me.
"Why is your car- Jamie, we've got less than an hour!"
"It's on the way!" Jamie held his hands in front of him defensively.
"Well," I said. "Go get dressed then. Preferably quickly."
Jamie smiled at me, hugging me quickly. "Will do. Uh... Thanks."
I smiled too. "Yeah, no problem."
As I sat down to wait for him, I looked at my phone. I had missed a message from John.
From John: Is everything good over there?
I tapped out a quick reply.
To John: Yeah. Gonna b a bit late, save me a seat
From John: Sounds good. Laura abandoned me for that girl she was talking to earlier.
From John: Your family keeps talking to me. I'm not sure what to do.
To John: Talk to them, dummy
To John: Or hide
From John: I'll choose the latter.
To John: Okay, dork
I smiled and put my phone in my pocket as Jamie came out from the other room. He looked fine, but his tie was untied and his cuffs were unbuckled. He looked at me. "Help."
I rolled my eyes and got up to tie his tie for him. "You're useless." I commented, holding out my hand so he could give he his arm to button his cuff.
