John really was funny. Laura and Corinne, who had also listened to his bit, were nearly in tears. I was trying, and failing, not to laugh. He grinned at me, and I giggled. Actually giggled. I hoped Laura hadn't noticed, she was weird about that stuff. A nudge and a wink from her let me know that she did, in fact notice. I huffed and turned my attention back to John. Corinne was talking to him and he was eating his food. I also took a bite of my food. I didn't agree with Laura about a whole lot, but she was right about one thing in particular, that brunch was a great thing.

The food was really warm, unlike the restaurant. Restaurants were always so cold. I mean, that made sense, because they don't want bacteria to fester, but I wished that I had at least brought a sweater. I shivered involuntarily, but brushed it off and continued to eat my food. Before I could react, a coat was thrown over my shoulders. I looked up, confused. John was sitting in his seat. He wasn't wearing his coat anymore.

"What are you doing." I deadpanned.

"Sorry," John said. "You just looked really cold."

I bit my lip. "Oh, uh, thanks. But what about you?"

He shrugged. "I'm not that cold. I'll live." He said.

We all continued talking and eating. We had finished all our food and were getting up to leave. I took off the jacket to give back to John and walked right into a conversation that he and Laura were having.

"Yeah we could go tomorrow, is Charlie coming?" John asked.

I chuckled nervously. "No, it's okay. I think I'm gonna stay in tomorrow."

Laura tugged on my arm. "Charlie! You have to go! We're seeing that old movie!"

Thanks, Laura. Very clear.

John smiled at me. "Yeah, you should come." He said. "It's Jason X."

Laura smiled at me. She got me. I couldn't turn down a bad horror movie, and she knew it. "It's playing at the theater downtown." She said.

"I mean, I guess I can go," I said quickly.

John smiled and started to say something, but Laura was faster. "Great!" She said. "John, it's at 5, Charlie, we're late!"

"Late for wh-" I started to say, but Laura pulled me away.

She got me outside before she let go of my arm.

"Laura, that was so rude!" I said.

She was panting, hands on her knees, but she looked up at me and smiled. "Since when do you care about being rude?" She asked.

I didn't care, I just, um... "You should go to the gym with me more often. We didn't even run and you can barely breathe."

Laura straightened up and smiled. "You deflected my question, but that's okay because I have something really important to tell you!"

I squinted at her. "What, Laura?"

She smiled.

"Laura, what?"

She smiled wider. "Oh, come on! You're gonna say you didn't notice?"

I shook my head. "Since I have no idea what you're on about, it's gonna be a no," I said.

"John!" She exclaimed. "He and Corinne! They totally hit it off!"

That was... not what I was expecting. "I guess? I thought you said he was gay."

"He's bi," Laura stated. "I think they would make a cute couple, don't you?"

"I can't really see it," I said, and we started walking. "Sure, they talked, but I don't think they make a great match."
