October 2010...

Just as the party settles in to full swing my door is knocked on yet another time. I pause my conversation with Phil about the song we're working on and make my way over to the door. As I turn the knob to open the door I take a quick swig of Corona and start my greeting. "Wel--" standing in front me is Lacey in a little black cocktail dress and black platform heels with her black waves spilling over one shoulder. She gives me a mischievous smile and I feel another growing on my face. "Lacey! You're here!"

"Yeah I'm here, what? You didn't think I would come to your album release party? Why wouldn't I?"

"That's a good question."

"Well, you gonna let me in or not?" She teases raising an eyebrow. I step aside and she walks in, her heels click with every step on my polished wood floor. I close the door and follow her back in. "Where are the drinks?"

"In the blue cooler next to the fridge," I say pointing her in the direction; she heads towards it. I watch her walk away and just as I am about to re-join Phil and resume our conversation, he is right beside me instead of by my coffee table where he was before. His presence startles me at first but then he poses a question. He follows my line of sight right to Lacey and keeps his eyes on her as I do.

"And she is..." he pauses for dramatic affect.

"Lacey." I look at him and grin.

"Lacey, cute name...there's something else here you're not telling me."

"Yeah..."

"B out with it man, I know there's something here."

"There is but you're not gonna like it."

"All the more reason for you to tell me whats going on, I might have to whip your ass into shape. She means something to you, you're obviously happy that she's here."

"That I am, that I am." I watch as Lacey takes a seat the small table where there's a poker game going on, she introduces herself and makes small talk with all the players and by the next game, she's in.

"So..." Phil make motions with his hands. "You gonna tell me or what?"

"Alright, alright, alright, it goes like this," I start. "Remember when Nikki cheated on me and told me that I would never make it?"

"Yeah."

"You know how I felt about her, it really messed me up."

"Believe me I remember."

"Right around that time is when I met Lacey. I was at a bar and she was working there as one of the dancers. She came up to me and we started talking after that, we danced and things got a little heated; I ended it. I left and she came after me to apologize for coming on too strong..."

"Uh huh," Phil says. He takes a sip from his bottle.

"Anyway, from there I went to the club when I had time on my hands so that I could see her and we became pretty good friends One night when I was really having issues with coming to terms with what Nikki said after I say her out with her new man so I went to talk to Lacey but...well...she wasn't at the club to talk that night."

"Oh...oh, I don't like where this is going," Phil says with a warning tone.

"Just let me finish," I reply putting a hand on his shoulder. "So, that night we danced and as and as they did before things got heated but...this time..."

"You didn't..." I nod slowly. "B, come on man!"

"Phil, it happened...I'm not exactly proud of it but it happened. I need to take my mind off of things ok?"
