| THE QUESTION HUNG HIGH IN the air as Judith awaited an answer. Her green eyes fixed sharply upon the grey haired woman as she sat at the edge of the bed. Lagertha finally sheared away from Viserya, her eyes meeting Judith's as her mind raced with all the mixed emotions over whelming her body. She inhaled deeply while she fidgeted with her hands knowing this had to be done.
" I believed at one time I had everything. A family and husband whom I loved dearly. Everything a woman could ever ask for. But that all changed when Ragnar left and then he came back and with him followed his whore, Aslaug... My daughter Gyla has died and then he does this. He had cheated on me, and thus allowed more of his children into this world. I couldn't blame him for that, I couldn't give him more of the thing he wanted most, more sons. He betrayed that trust we had together though and I hated him so much for it. So I left that day with Björn. But of course I came back to help Ragnar later on when Björn much older, no matter how much i hated him, i always came to his rescue, perhaps there was a part of me that still loved him."
She cleared her throat as her eyes lingered away from Judith to the floor,
" But it changed once again when he came back from yet another journey. This was a quick one something he had not planned. When he came back, he was carrying a little bundle in his arms as he walked up the shore. Aslaug and I looked to one another, angered that he dare sleep with another woman. Perhaps that was the one time Aslaug and I ever agreed on anything. Ragnar had barely said anything to us about the child, nothing. The men that followed behind him, carried a large chest but where the engraving had been was chipped off. the one thing we did manage to get from him was that her name was Viserya and that was all he was willing to tell us. Aslaug despised Viserya more than i did, she never let her near her siblings when she was old even to walk. Or whenever Ragnar left her side for he never did. Aslaug pleaded with him to send her away but whoever her mother was, he must have loved her dearly for nothing Aslaug said could persuade him to send her away. She told him that she was the spawn of the devil himself, but he never listened. For years the girl grew, but every time she would look at me, I would be daunted by those piercing amber eyes, that Ragnar dare daunt me with his bastard child."
Lagertha clenched her jaw tightly as if she pushed on. " So I prayed that the gods would take her away, banish her so I would not have to be tormented to look upon one of his basterds." Judith closed her eyes as lonesome tear fell down her cheek.
" She fell ill the next night, she had just turned three when it happened. Ragnar was all over the place, he wouldn't leave her not once. He cursed whomever came close to her, becoming like a mad dog. Each day he held Aethelstan's cross over her body as he prayed for Aethelstan to help, for anyone to help. Even the priest was there, Beocca, the one who followed him on his journey. They stayed by her side day and night. Then that's when I realized there was no way she could have been his child, with the silver hair and the priest. There was only one person I had heard of having hair just like that and her name was Daenerys. She was the daughter of Daenerys Stormborn, a child that was blessed to rule, That she was destined for great things. Viserya was the way for Ragnar to see Aethelstan one more time, a chance for Ragnar to redeem himself in the eyes of the gods and I was taking that away. The realization hit me so hard about what I had done. So i knew I had to make things right, even though I knew deep down inside, the stories I heard about no one was to trust a Targaryen for everyone knew the destruction they caused. But I prayed to myself that she would not turn out like that, she would be good person and a great leader. So I went back and prayed to the gods to keep her here, to keep her alive. That she was needed in this world not in the next one yet. That I had made a mistake and as I awaited, they relied."
