Sans-coeur? Non, Sans-vie

This hit me like a wrecking ball.

Nathalie remembered the entirety of her existence.

She remembered taking form and learning how to do things a person should be able to do. She remembered the little hints that she was not the normal person, even after so long covering them up. She remembered meeting Gabriel and Adrien for the first time.

The first thing she remembered was Emilie.

Suited up as what Nathalie now realised was a peacock superheroine of the likes of Ladybug, she told Nathalie her purpose in life. Your name is Nathalie, and you are meant to serve. Be obedient to my son, Adrien Agreste, and my husband Gabriel Agreste. Serve them in life if I ever should be unable to.

She reminded herself every day. "My name is Nathalie, and I am meant to serve."

So she did. She served them loyally. She became what they needed her to be. When Gabriel needed a personal assistant, she took the job. When her Emilie died, she became Adrien's caretaker. When Gabriel became Hawk Moth, she took her mistress's old role and became Mayura.

Whatever Gabriel and Adrien needed, she could become.

She knew her Miraculous's power better than even Emilie.

She knew that the Miraculous created short term, and that the perversion Emilie had put her brooch through to make Nathalie come into existence had destroyed it's core, and that now it was corrupted. She felt it eating at her, taking back its magic slowly. She knew that the Miraculous would eat her up, and that only then would it return to normal.

Nathalie was not created to have emotions. Despite this, the guilt of knowing why Emilie was asleep pervaded every inch of her being, as she utterly failed in her mission by existing.

Her mistress had always adored paradoxes.

I am suddenly theorising that Emilie perverted the Miraculous (who else could it be?) and used it to have Nathalie exist.

Think about it. The Miraculous was only separated from the Guardians (where it was undoubtedly safe) after Fu's mistake. We know Gabriel and Emilie found both and Gabriel donned the Butterfly Brooch (hinted by Gabriel's remarks to Nooroo at the beginning of Origins. We can assume that Emilie donned the Peacock Brooch, and that her current state is due to that if that has not already been confirmed. We know Nathalie experienced a decline in health after using the Peacock Miraculous. These are (mostly) cold, hard, undeniable facts.

Therefore, Emilie (or Gabriel, but I don't see it as likely) must have done something to the Miraculous to break/pervert it. One of them must have pushed it beyond its limits.

I can see that push beyond the limit being Nathalie.

Sorry for theory-head mode I'm going to stop now.

Also the title is French, it means, "Heartless? No, Lifeless."
