A Nighttime Vigil (Angst)

Marinette did not want to get akumatized.

However, after an akuma first came for her the day Ms. Bustier had gotten akumatized, she couldn't stop thinking about it.

She played with many different ideas for what she might turn to as Hawk Moth's pawn - a permanent Ladybug, as Marinette has always been slighted in favour of her heroine alter-ego.

Perhaps a force of bad luck, the inverse of Ladybug, should Hawk Moth take her transformed.

A bunch of different Marinettes covering her responsibilities (as a collection she called them Manynette) crossed her mind as she struggled  and strived to keep her life seeming some semblance of normal. As she worked hard to pretend that she hadn't gotten a little more tired and worn and spread a little too thin as Ladybug patrolled and defended Paris from the evils Hawk Moth's akumas wrought.

A crusader for justice she imagined as she glared at Chloe and bit her tongue as per Ms. Bustier's requests. A princess of justice, demanding the truth from everyone and everything.

She'd considered a villain inflicting insecurities, doubts, darkness on other people the day Lila was akumatized the… what was it, third time by now, if one included the Heroes’ Day fiasco?

That day she had truly been afraid she would become one of Hawk Moth's little devils.

She also knew human beings - and that included Hawk Moth - slept at night.

So, she slept at 21:00, woke up at 1:00, and cried her guts out. She cried so hard she didn't have tears. She forced herself to wallow in her suffering and deal with it, because she could not feel any negative emotions during the day for fear of Hawk Moth's butterflies.

If she owned that she was a terrible person, with no true friends, who hated herself most of all, then Hawk Moth could not akumatize her.

Right?

Tikki warned her that it wasn't healthy, that she was wonderful and it would be very hard indeed to get Marinette akumatized.

Her only reply was, “It's the duty of a hero to ensure that it does not happen.”

The burden of Ladybugs, since Creation, has been the responsibility to ensure Creation survives Destruction better for it. The Ladybug must not be Destroyed herself.

For Destruction does not know control, and should Destruction or it's children ever touch Creation, the world will burn.

I'm perfectly aware that Marinette is supposed to be "too optimistic" to be akumatised, as per Word of God, but this is a throwaway piece I wrote awhile back before I knew that and when I was an angst child.

Also, not all akumanette ideas mentioned are mine. Permabug, Antibug, Manynette, Princess Justice, and Little Devil are from various sources - only Permabug (to an extent Antibug as well?) is my own original content.
