You were sat in lesson, talking to your best friend about prom. You weren't expecting anybody to ask you, so had fully planned to go alone. It came as a great shock then, when not one, but two, requests came for you to be their date.

"I hope River asks me," your friend whispered to you, leaning over the back of her chair. "He's dead cute, but he is a little naive. I mean I've been flirting with him for months now and he clearly hasn't noticed!"
You laughed and whispered back, "Well, I hope he does ask you."
In reality, you really hoped that he didn't. You had liked River for practically ages, but didn't want to say anything, in case your friend became mad at you.
You looked back down and started taking notes in your book, which after several minutes turned to mindless doodling.
"Hey," a voice called. "Psst... (Y/N)."
You looked up and saw Wil Wheaton smiling at you. He screwed up the sheet of paper he had been writing on into a ball, and threw it at you. You caught it and unfolded it.
Written on the paper was the single word, 'Prom?', with two boxes underneath, 'Yes' and 'No' and the statement 'Tick one.'
You looked up and smiled at Wil. You had been hoping that River would ask you, but you knew that there was no chance of that happening. Besides, Wil was sweet. You leant over to tick the 'Yes' box, but were interrupted by a loud cough.
You spun around and saw River looking straight at you. He took his glasses off and placed them onto his desk. He leant forwards against his desk and smirked.
"Well, (Y/N), this is a problem. I've been meaning to ask for a while. Will you go to prom with me?"
Wil spun around and glared at River and your friend let out a scoff and gave you a glare that said, 'Don't even think about saying yes!'
