- P O S E I D O N -
The death list had just been shown in the sky. The winds were still blowing hard, but after 10 hours, going outside and not dying was possible again. We had sheltered under some dense trees.
"So, 10 people." Enrique counts.
"The final ten, huh?" I state. "Which one will be one?"
"I'd die ten times not to let Kable win." Enrique says, throwing a rock at a tree. "What the hell happened, Poseidon?"
"We were winning.." I say calmly, even though I was pissed beyond belief. Keeping us calm was half of my battle. "I don't know who it was, but they shot an arrow into Mason. I was out of arrows!"
Enrique sighs. I had already told him, but he was still in disbelief. I think both Valerie and Mason's demise hit him hard. Me, not so much. When I had my surprise element, Kable was no match for me.
"Look, he's hurt bad." I say. "He isn't a threat right now. We need to kill off the competition, and restate our dominance."
"Yeah." Enrique says, elated at the statement. "Yeah!"
"I'm glad you like it." I say, standing up and grabbing my bow. "But we may want another set of hands. This is a 2 versus 8, and there is still a group of 4. We need help."
"But who?" Enrique questions. "No one in the squad of 4 will side with us. That leaves Kable, Dawn, Samira, and Bailey."
"Bailey is useless." I say. "She's who we should practice with. A bigger target doesn't hurt either."
Enrique laughs along, before listing the other three again. "Which one? Not Kable, so it's Dawn or Samira."
"I guess whichever one we find first." I confirm. "Both are good, but I'd prefer Samira. Dawn seems odd to me."
"But Dawn would be easier to persuade." Enrique points out, getting up and we start walking. "I'm her district partner, after all."
"Wait." I say, holding my hand in front of Enrique. He stops, and I spot someone in the distance. "Someone is there."
"Who?" Enrique whispers.
"Go right, I'll head left." I say, not answering his question. We tip toe and surround the clearing the person is in. When we're in position, we reveal ourselves.
She gasps and reaches for something, but I aim my arrow straight at her. "Don't try anything."
"Dawn?" Enrique asks, and I see it now. It is Dawn.
"Put the bow down!" She exclaims, setting her weapon down. "Enrique, can you help?"
I put it down, and she steps into the moonlight. Her face is covered with cuts and her hair is a moist, matted mess. "I got a deal for you." I say.
"What's that?" She asks. She no longer looks scared.
"Join us." Enrique says. "You can help us eliminate the squad of 4."
