Night 6, Part 3: Tragedy

The final chapter.

Also known as the one where the survivors shake in fear.

We stand in the forest clearing, seeing a helicopter fly off with Maddox and Sarah. I don't think much of it until I remember the Ike announcement... maybe that's who got them away?

I couldn't think about that now, I had bigger problems.. like Poseidon standing in front of me. Dawn and I had watched on as Kable fell. Even if he did beat Poseidon, he wouldn't have survived the double team. Only, the small amount of damage Kable had done to Poseidon didn't help our position.

     It left only us three, the last Careers, to battle it out amongst ourselves. Poseidon with his Bow, Dawn with her Bow, and me with my Katana.

"Enrique.." Poseidon starts. "How did you fall for her, of all people?" He aims his bow at Dawn, and Dawn aims back.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Dawn asks with a menacing grin.

I grab my Katana and start to charge him, trying to close the distance. "This!" Poseidon exclaims, firing an arrow at Dawn and knocking her bow out of her hand. Poseidon then makes a sweeping motion with his bow, tripping me and sending me to the ground hard.

Poseidon backs away and runs farther into the jungle. I get up, helping up Dawn as she grabs her bow. We eventually start running after Poseidon. "3 Forever?" Dawn asks.

"3 Forever." I say, charging with her and getting close to Poseidon. She was much slower than me, but I was quicker than Poseidon. I start to catch up, waiting for Dawn to ring up the rear.

I see a clearing ahead, and burst into it with full speed. It turned out to be a coastline of the flooded swamp. Trees were overturned and leaning into the water, and bits of metal plating were washing onto shore. I could see the framework of the airport in the distance, with the lighthouse intact on an island.

I chase Poseidon with parkour, leaping over trees and sliding under other timber to catch him. I was making progress, and Dawn wasn't too far behind.. she was just now making it to the shore.

"You can't keep your distance forever!" I yell, leaping over another log and making it within fifteen feet of him. Then, I saw where he was heading. 300 feet ahead was an elevated mound, surrounded by a clearing on all sides. If he made it there, I'd have no cover from his arrows. Dawn wasn't as good of an archer as him either.

I couldn't let him get there. I wouldn't. I was going to win this, not a typical one boy.

I plant onto another log, getting within five feet, and leap. I manage to grab his quiver, spilling his arrows and toppling both of us over in the process. He lands onto the ground with his arrows, and I swipe my sword at him. It misses, and so I try to stab. He catches it with his bow, holding my weapon over him.

"She's no friend!" Poseidon exclaims, not holding the bow with enough strength. I was gaining ground, with a blade aimed at his throat.

"She's my District Partner!" I yell. "You're just a Career!"

"So are you." He says with a deep voice. "A traitor." I feel a pain in my chest, and lose my grip on the sword and topple over. There was no blood, just a well placed kick. He had knocked all of my air out.
