13. Heart-broken

"nope", I replied after a moment of silence.

Although I was physically present with Nithish my soul was wandering somewhere else. I tried hard to get rid of his thoughts but to my dismay the more I try the more his memories haunted me. 

In the middle of our talk, Nithish excused himself for a minute. utilizing the moment I tried reaching out Gautham before he could return, but he didn't answer my calls.
Being Frustrated I canceled the order and requested Nithish to drop me back home. But I never knew I spoiled his plans. While we are on our way his car stopped suddenly a few meters before my home. Although I wasn't afraid of lonely streets, Nithish offered to walk with me till home.
While we were walking down the lonely streets, Nithish initiated a conversation,
"so what is your plan after degree?"
"not much, as for now a pretty good job"
"then?"
"then... marriage"
"love marriage?"
"Nah"
"don't you believe in love?"
"It is only for those who look pretty and charming and it's not my cup of tea"
"what if someone loves you"
"it's not gonna happen"
"what if I say yes and that person happens to be me", I stopped on my track and stood there still stunned by his reply.
"will you marry me?", He kneeled down and held the ring towards me.
before I could react to his proposal, my phone rang up and it was none other than Gautham. Nithish gave a sad smile and stood up and asked me to attend the call. But I wasn't still out of the shock.
For the past 6 days I have been waiting for his call, but that day, I ignored his call and questioned Nithish instead
"but why me, I am not good looking, charming or a wealthy person"
"I thought you knew me well, I am not such a person who grades people" 

"but"

"your cheerful personality is what attracted me"

"You have been a very good friend of mine but I have never seen you in such perspective, I am sorry I don't think I feel the same for you", I answered him back after much pondering

"no don't be sorry it's your wish to express your feelings, in fact, I already knew the answer, it's just that I don't want to remain coward"

"Lets forget this incident and move on", i turned around to get back inside but he instantly grabbed my hand pulled me onto hug.

"i can't, i will wait for you", he spoke out in hug making my heart race. 

Gautham Pov

I purposefully didn't ring to Keerthi nor attend her call, I just wanna tease her a bit and surprise her in the end. As planned, I returned back a day before and reached her home straight from the airport. As I reach her home I started to feel tense but at the same time, I was excited too. When I made a call to her to ask her to come out, strangely I heard her ringtone outside which caught my attention and I looked through that direction, to my dismay I found Nithish proposing her although I was shattered I still waited there in a hope that Keerthi would reject him but when they hugged each other I was completely shattered and left the place disheartened. No man could ever see his girl with another person and I am not the only exception.

Rohan was the one who took care of me when I spend my days in grief. One day Rohan approached me with much excitement.
"Guess what your brother Aravind is coming back home!!"
I did not react much to it.
"come on cheer up man! Don't waste your life for her"
"do it at least for your brother", he added on
I guess he is right I can't face him with this gloomy face of mine, I have to move on, at least for his sake.

p.s: Nithish decided to hide ring at dessert and propose her dramatically but all his plans got messed up when Keerthi called off the dinner all of a sudden
